Dredd Topper Project

For best results with metalic paints always use a black primer
Cheers for the tip Rudi 👍

I used a grey primer for those paint tests and they came out really well, will pick up some black primer, excited to see how that turns out.

After a break over the winter I picked up the project again in Feb, I'll get you up-to-date via the next flurry of incoming post updates.

After pouring what would be the master copy I spent a few hours sanding and filling, ironing out any imperfections. Keyed the claws.

Once the master model was prepped and ready I made another silicon mould, from the master copy this time, and after cutting out the master I poured the first copy from the new master mould.

Started assembling the piece.

After drilling and fitting some M4 threaded rod to the back of the piece to allow mounting on the original bracket (you'll a picture of this in the next post) I was able to move onto paint.

I applied a multiple coats of grey filler primer followed by black primer and then finish of with a Rust-Oleum metallic gold.

It was quite a journey underestimating the amount of work but very happy with the finished result.

@RudeDogg1 that was a great tip on using a black primer the difference in finish between that and grey primer is quite something.

The piece is a solid cast using polyurethane resin which is very strong, for belt 'n' braces I placed some fibre glass sheet along the width of the piece before pouring.

Seriously nice work Chris ! Great attention to detail. Are you planning on supplying these to dredd owners?

Thanks for the kind words Davie.

Yes would be happy to supply. I need to fabricate the bracket and then do a fitting at my mates then open up for orders.

Does this mean you are close to selling?

My JD is screaming for one. 😁

I haven't fabricated the bracket yet Scott but wanted to get something for Pinfest so folks can get a look and feel. Appreciate your interest and nice job on that JD 👍

You'll find me during the day at the NBA competition.

Fair enough. Tbh I'd be happy enough with the eagle and could source own/make my own bracket?

Same here. I didn't even expect an bracket to be manufactured too. But I'd be more than happy with just the Eagle
If you have the original bracket it should fit I have positioned the fittings at the same location. Without having a bracket I can't say 100% there wouldn't be some fettling required though.
