Afternoon.. I wonder if I could ask for some help?

I am putting (back?!) lamps into the top bumpers of Hurricane. First runs of these HAD bumper lights, later they did not, but lamps exist in the programming and lamp matrix.

This fabulous guide is helping me , but it mentions a diode for each lamp, 1N4004. Sods law means I have 1N4001 and 1N4007.

As I understand it, the higher the diode number, the more voltage it can handle. More INFO HERE

I am going to use the 4007, as that's what I have and it handles up to 1000 voltage but I was wondering why it would ask for 4004 diode (400v) and not use the 4001 (50v) as the lamp matrix is 18v?

I am not an electrician (as is evident) I am just interested in understanding, if anyone can help :)

they are just a bit more robust , and, probably more available therefore cheaper at the time

Thanks both. All done, working and I haven't electrocuted myself.
