Williams Whitewater Playfield Question

Hi all,
I am pretty new to this forum, having used RGP for a few years then the yahoo forum which to be honest did my head in, anyways I think i'm in the right section for my question which basically is -
I picked up a Whitewater, not in too bad a shape, but the mylar on the playfield had gone very crazed, it had sort of broken into tiny little bits, so after a days work with a hairdryer and getting pretty sore under-fingernails from all the little bits of mylar getting wedged in there I removed the upper surface of mylar from the main playfield area. My question is should I leave it how it is now, it seems to have a second protective coating which is protecting the insert decals, or is there something I should coat it with?

Personally I'd leave it. However, you might want to think about the area near the mine kick out as it gets a hammering

If the underneath is ok I'd prob leave it - removing it risks losing insert artwork.

Right, thanks, I didn't know if the under surface would be very durable, I certainly didn't fancy trying to coat it with anything and it's a lovely flat surface how it is now, I may just put a square of mylar at the mine kick out. I have the original topper but this has quite a tear in the reflective surface and the outer clear cover is missing, I saw that you can buy the cover from Flipperkast, and did see that a company was trying to reproduce the proper reflective topper but the article I saw about this stated that it didn't reflect properly, unsure whether to wait for them to sort problems and buy the whole topper or just get the cover and use my rather battered original!

Yes it seems to have, the upper layer was super thick, the lower layer looks ok but I don't think it's anything like as thick as the upper one, I bought this pin to keep and want to make it pretty nice, I just have a terrible vision of the surface that i'm now left with getting nasty ball swirls and damage, as it looks lovely at the moment,

If you keep it clean and always have good condition balls in the game there should be little risk of wear in home use environment.
