Why are Stern flipper mechs so expensive?

Hi guys.

Going to start shopping my newly acquired Stern Terminator 3, and 1 of the things required is a flipper rebuild.
Looking around, it seems the prices for standard Stern/sega/DE flipper parts are twice as much as Bally/williams, yet are almost indentical in every way!!!!!

Why so expensive, and could i use williams stuff?

I've always wondered why they cost so much, probably the williams parts are more in demand and made in larger quantities.

You could probably fit an entire Williams flipper mech into a DE / Sega / Stern game, which costs about the same as a DE / Sega / Stern rebuild kit. I've not tried this yet, but I have considered it a few times. I need to do it just to see if it fits and works ok. You'd need the right coil too

because there is no need to replace the flipper pawl, just the link and plunger. yes you can replace with W/B parts. i think it reduces speaker 'hum' as well.

Right ok, cheers guys. Think i'll buy some W/B parts and try. Won't matter if they don't work/fit as can use them on other machines.
Quite agree bartron, no need to replace pawl. Not sure how it reduces hum but if it does, bonus!
