Hi guys,

I sometimes see people have had their painted pinball legs/lockdown bars etc shot blasted and powder coated. It seems to be something that people have done locally.

My question is a) is it worth doing, and b) what sort of place would you approach to ask about this and c) what sort of money does it cost?

Thanks in advance!

Mark

I'm also looking into this at the moment.

I've found a local company who can do it - so my plan was (at some point) to strip the front legs off my R&B and take it in to see if they can give me a price. At least that way I save on the cost of posting the legs both ways.

Just the front??? ;)

Mark.... there's loads of places around here (Birmingham) that do powder coating...

I'm intending to take some stuff in to be plated in the next 1-2 weeks - I'll ask the guys in there if they can recommend anywhere...

Yeah, sure, I mean who looks at the back legs. ;)

I'd rather not have the machine on no legs as it means I can't play it. I'm going to prop up the front end with my workmate for now and once i've got prices i'll strip all four legs and have them blasted and coated as quickly as possible.

The downsides of only having a single pinball eh? That's a modern day problem if ever I heard one.......

From what I understand, this type of thing gets cheaper the more bits you have done at once so your better off getting all the legs done together I would have thought....plus any other bits you fancy having coated to match, coin door, lockdown bar, side rails etc :)

I use this firm who are local:

Powder coating used to be a cheap way of protecting metal and it looked cheap. Nowadays the finish is incredible and looks like high gloss paint.

I'm thinking of having a full set of trim pieces (legs, rails, hinges, lockdown bar) done in black for a different look on my MM.

Yes - i had a load of stuff plated for a VERY reasonable price... need another lot done now... the guy was saying that you get a better price per item if you get them done in bulk....

Recently got the sides of my Sega Naomi powder coated satin black plus the end caps and feet for £20

Thanks guys,

Cheers Paul - if you could let me know anywhere in the Midlands that your guy recommends it would be much appreciated. I work in Brum city centre but I guess places that do that sort of thing will be more on the outskirts.

At the moment I have two sets of legs and one lockdown bar to be done - does anyone have a rough idea of what that would cost?

Cheers. Mark

This is the future chaps.
