Wellingborough Wizzards

Hello, firstly I love your enthusiasm for running a pinball event - though you might be underestimating the amount of work involved!

I have a couple of questions:

  • "£10 per table" - Does this mean people have to pay to bring their pinball machine along to be used in the competition?
  • What is the "mystery" tournament?
  • If you have 34 machines, you will need at least an hour and a half for set up and for set down (each!) - 1.5hr to get everything set up AND packed down is really very optimistic! External events (not held at a pinball club) take hours to set up and get ready, you need to set the games up, test them and make any repairs, level them, check tilt bobs, etc.
  • How are you going to record the game scores? Do you have volunteers to help with scorekeeping?

No criticisms here just questions.

Also you will need to make sure that due to it being open to the public that the power delivery is all setup correctly and that all machines are PAT tested for safety if they dont already have a test certificate, not many home/privately owned machines will have this unless they have been used in the last couple of years at a public event.

36 pins is going to draw a lot of power if all being used at the same time.

Have you been planning this for a while and have machine donations already offered as its only in 2.5 months away and possibly short notice for a lot of people to commit to, also I know it says its for charity but expecting people to bring a machine along and pay £10 for the privilege seems a bit off, I know another show host tried this and they were promptly told by several donators where to relocate themselves.

As an example UK Pinfest planning starts about a year before the show is hosted and machine donations starting 7 months before, and the setup in the main room starts over 24 hours before the event begins and that is for roughly 3 times the number of pins you are suggesting, and is usually just about ready to go a couple of hours before the Friday VIP event starts.

Your intentions appear to be in the right place, Im just not sure this seems fully thought out.

Just adding to @Fantazia2's points (which I agree with! April is very short notice to organise something like this) - you'll also need to ensure you have insurance for the event, as the venue's own insurance won't cover any injuries caused by the pinball machines (for example if someone is injured when moving a pin). :)

Thanks for the feedback. That's the kind of thing I was hoping for. It will most likely not be going ahead, due to some of the things brought up.
IF I was to get it all sorted, the only other date is close to the UKPinfest. (Aug 17) So wouldn't be suitable to run then.
I was thinking about it, as there are no event's, apart from Pinfest in Northamptonshire. I would like to see another, and at a different location, than Daventry.
I have run small events with sucsess before. But this would have been my first attempt at a pinball one.
