It's one of life's mysteries. You buy a machine that has never had a problem in its short life, put it in a van for a few hours, then it all goes pear shaped. But, it's giving me an opportunity to learn about Spike 2 :) Machine was playing fine, then wouldn't boot. Reseated the SD card, this all sorted. Upgraded to the latest s/w, all good for a couple of games. then it developed an intermittent (1 in every 5 actuations) delay on the flippers, and when the left flipper was held up , the right flipper would drop (not vice versa though). Reseated all the connectors on Node Board 8. Now, the issue has morphed and the lower left flipper not working at all now in game (right flipper, upper left flipper working fine). All flippers working fine in coil test, both flipper buttons working fine in switch test.
So, I've run out of logic. If the coils test works, then it might indicate a switch issue. But if the switch tests work, doesn't that rule out a switch issue?
Collective wisdom of this group gratefully received.

John

This place has far more wisdom :).
Update from Johns text based live stream….1) the left flipper button isn’t working in switch test. I forgot that it’s two stages, so only the upper flipper switch is registering
2) if put some pressure on the connector on the node board, it’s back working again, so it’s definitely the connector on the node board, or perhaps a cold joint on the board itself.

It’s going to be the pins, they are **** poor

I’ve ordered 100 😆 if you pop the pin out, I’m sure the end will have snapped off.

Across my machines, there are at least a dozen needing replaced

You can get it working again (until you replace it) by bending the end down a bit to make a hook.

They’re the worst pins I’ve ever came across 🙄

Mine are coming from America with a load of other stuff, so it’ll be another week at least, but I can send you some when they arrive

Well that's bloody annoying! If it had done that before you took it away I could have fixed it easily as I've got loads of those pins here  @johnh I can bring some to Pinfest on Sunday for you if you like mate? I'm assuming it's the 0.100" ones?

Sod’s Law, but an opportunity to get under the hood / playfield and learn a bit, so all good. I’m told, .1 inch, if that’s the same. That’d be fab, thx. (And thx @Markedkiller78 for offer too)

Hey folks. I've replaced the pin on for the left flipper button, it was an easy fix :) But the upper flipper is still struggling, it works if I put pressure on the connector, so feels like its the pin again. The lower flipper cable came out in my hand, so was easy to cut and replace, but the upper flipper pin is stuck in the connector (even though it's not making a solid connection to the node board). How do I remove the pin to replace it? TIA.

There's a hole in the side of the molex connector where you can see the pin, push a screw driver or something in there to put pressure on the pin and at the same time pull the wire out

Thanks @Jib and @ronsplooter for the tips on removing the pin. It's done! All flippers back in action :) It takes a village.... I know for many this is a minor thing to fix, but it's the sort of thing I'm not sure I would tackle without help here. Makes such a difference. Thanks the help here and @mufcmufc @ronsplooter for help on WhatsApp. And thanks to @pinballmania Andy for sending me a crimpey tool thing for a loan!
Appreciate all the help.

Glad you got it fixed 😎 I stand by saying these are the worst pins I’ve ever encountered. They’re far too small for this design.

I’ve never had a problem with JST pins this size
