I have a friend who has the above machine and he lives near Truro. Unfortunately, he has limited experience of the machine and needs help or advice as to what to do. Thinking of perhaps getting a board repaired ( if the culprit is easily identified of course) or, if there is anyone who could perhaps go and look/fix it for him please? He has tried reseating all the ribbon cables and no fuses look to have blown, so I think maybe a board fault but open to a y help or advice please.

Whats the condition around the battery area? Is there any corrosion?
Also take a picture of the boards so that we can se what led's are lit

what does “Won’t boot up” mean, are there any lights or sound or does he have a completely dead machine?

As above, does it turn on at all? If so, describe what does happen.

@RudeDogg1 is the only person I can think of who might be closest for visit, and even then it’s still a fair drive. Not volunteering, but I know he’s saving up for something nice!

Thanks for the replies. I'm told that some red LEDs are lit?
I've just emailed him to ask for some images and a step by step description of what happens when its turned on.
New batteries were routinely fitted last month and no corrosion issues noted though that's not to say its 100%.

Sorry for the late reply. He noticed that a connector that ran to the dot matrix board wasn't fully seated. Plugging it home and it now seems ok and isnt sodding around. Fingers crossed and thanks for your help with this.

I spoke to soon!
Its begun to do it again with a vengeance. He's made a brief video of it, showing the LEDs that are lit.
Any thoughts welcome!

one of these *may* be a 'get out of jail free card' to get him playing again, but it isn't a proper fix.

The shipping & import fees might knock the price up a bit.

The Pro version will at least show if you are having 5V issues.

Otherwise read this: http://pinwiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Williams_WPC#Game_resets

or ask @pinballmania if he'll take your boards in for a service?

Those boards can be great at fixing the symptoms. But sometimes an easier temp fix is simply to remove the main power connector J101 (or is it J102) and then plug it back in a few times to clean the connection between the pins and the inside of the connector. This will often fix the reset issue, at least for a few months, I've found. That's if it's your 5V supply...

Thanks everyone. Andy at PM has given me a few more pointers too so I'll pass these on and hopefully, we'll have this fixed.

Can you pass them along to me also - I'm getting resets on one of my WIlliams - I need to go through the troubleshooting as well. Thanks

Buy the pinball heaven board if your pal has limited knowledge, I see so many PCBs ruined by people trying to repair them.

Its under £40 and will save him a lot of time, effort and messing about.
