I don't have a TZ myself but I'm pretty sure from what others have said that it's normally down to dodgy opto's on the clock board caused by the heat from the lamps I think. I'm sure someone who actually has a TZ will provide a more useful answer but worst case scenario is you need one of the new improved clock boards...hopefully you'll be able to fix your existing one though
Same issue on mine. Haven't poked at it yet, but will do soon. Like Ron says, most probably bad opto, but a small chance that its the hands not breaking the opto beam. I think you can put it into test mode then (with clock covers off) try breaking the beam manually. This would identify whether its a broken opto, or just some tweaking required to the clock hands.
If the optos are bad, and/or the board suffering from heat damage then a replacement may be easiest option. I quite like the look of this one: http://www.german-pinball-modular.de/final-tz-clock-pcb-english.html but no idea how much it is (most others seem to be around the £60-£70 mark.)
Clean all the optos, take it apart and clean the ones inside too, it fixed mine and has run sweet ever since. Taking it apart is easy, you don't have to touch the cogs, 5 minute job. Just watch the clip holding the hands on doesn't fly off and you never see it again!
Does it work in test mode? if it seems to do everything it is supposed to it should fix with a cotton bud clean.
