After receiving a nice souped up Tron, I noticed that at some point in its life oxidisation occurred so most of the posts are really poor so I’ve decided to fit new ones.
So May as well go the whole hog and mod it even more !!
Just received a shed load of bits so will just detail what it’s like now, really nice playfield etc, and new stuff going on.
Thanks to Phil Palmer for sourcing the majority of parts, Chris B for mirror blades and countless advice, Collywobbles for plastics and the in progress Topper bringing my ideas to life in plastic along with some creative license along the way

So here it is with just the ramps and most plastics removed.
You can see why I’m changing the posts, stern posts don’t clean up as well as B/W posts imo so easier to fit new.
Coindoor is very good but spoiled by rivets so have new surrounds which cost a couple of quid. Cabinet is excellent and no decals as it’s direct print which I really like, just minor mark on left side of BB which you hardly notice.
Have new black siderails with button protectors to go on, and legs were good but a few scuffs so currently being powder coated

It currently doesn’t have playfield slide rails due to Stern cost cutting, just 2 bolts which don’t put the playfield in a very good position so new support rail kit to be fitted.
New rgb speaker lights and acrylics, new Recognizer mod with 2 led strips.
Led flipper buttons, Tron version
New Target foam pads.

Also collected some mirror blades yesterday, thanks Chris B.
I’m hoping that the dent on the back side doesn’t show on the mirrored side, time will tell.
One of reasons these are difficult to ship

Thanks to collywobbles for measuring his Met so I could double check my markings from precariously holding metal apron and marking masking tape. Not far out but enough and so much easier to have a reference.
Pre drilled holes and then used 5mm wood drill and then removed masking tape.
Holes came out very clean.
Metal apron fits perfectly and the rear holes align with the playfield hangers perfectly.
Huge sigh of relief
Just need to source 2 screws that fix it to the playfield hangers.

Removed apron stickers and adhesive.
Fitted new Apron windows.
Very happy with them

Daylight fading, so last quick job for today.
Removed riveted coin door slot which spoils an otherwise nice coindoor.
Only a couple of quid and five mins to do, so changed both.

Apron magnetic art arrived from Wizardmods and then realised that Tron metal apron is different to the pro plastic apron and the metal apron I obtained - it has a deep round cut out above he flippers which allows you to see more of the playfield, so had to cut the metal apron to suit.

Also a huge shout out to Collywobbles for taking my idea for a topper and making it even better, still not finished but not far off, and for helping me create the combo protectors and embellishing them along with a shed load of other protectors and very kwl etched ramp plastics for the bikes

Today spent removing and cleaning ball guides

Removed rear posts to get better acces to clean the rails which are awful, now they’re looking a lot nicer

Bit of post cleaning, I have a lot of new posts but they are the ones that have rubbers on.

Playfield virtually stripped, side rails removed and large metal guides cleaned.
Rest of playfield rails cleaned, playfield cleaned with Novus and in really nice condition.
Shooter rails refitted just as the sun was setting.
Not much cleaning left and then on to the good stuff

Slow progress,
Flashers so badly corroded I had to use pipe grips to get the bulbs out.
Then found all the rear gi sockets badly corroded too, and looking at the rest, they all need cleaning to some extent.
Done 8 gi sockets so far, very laborious job

Playfield hangers and screws really bad, but not as bad as the side brackets !
Cleaned up reasonably well

Finally finished removing every gi bayonet, cleaned and refitted.
Fitted various Comet 2smd’s to test once plastics are on.
Cleaned return guides and fitted new posts and rubbers.

2 new pop bumper bodies etc fitted, need to wire up once I’ve dry tested.
Plastic protector combos fitted and used old plastics temporarily until I’m happy then new plastics will go.
Slings removed as they need cleaning etc.

All 3 flippers are in a terrible state, have. 3 rebuild kits, done the upper left but the flipper bats are awful so need to order 3 new ones as they just won’t clean up very well

Had great fun with the spinning disc too.
Grub screw seized.
Stripped and cleaned as best I can, rebuilt and awaiting new grip set
