TBL - Car Stepper Motor Issue - SOLVED

You know when you wish you had not started something...

Question:

Would someone with a TBL mind photographing the top of the shaft from the stepper motor that the car on the mini playfield is attached to please - as per my first photo below - so I can confirm that the bracket should be spot welded to the shaft of the stepper motor and if it is I'll get in touch with Rens at DP and see if that's something they sell as a spare part (fingers crossed) because I think mine is busted!

Why I need the photo:

Was having an issue with shots to the Jesus ramp being rejected (i.e. ball would not drop in to hole and be ejected in to upper playfield). This was happening about 9 shots out of 10. When I looked up the ramp I could see that roughly 1/4 of the hole dropping in to the trough was blocked off by the VUK scoop.

So...I took the mini playfield off, tried to realign the scoop - which I managed to do a little bit. The scoop is still blocking the top of the ramp but only by a few millimetres. See 2nd photo below. Testing it by throwing balls up it, it had gone from 9 out of 10 shots being rejected to hardly any.

However. In order to remove the mini playfield I had to disconnect the car from the stepper motor (which on my model was right under the main playfield and connected to the car via a long shaft). This was achieved by undoing the nuts that connect the top of the shaft to the bottom of the shaft that enters the stepper motor (I am guessing that this connection is there to enable adjustment of the height of the shaft) - see 3rd photo below. When I did this I heard a loud "WTF have I done" crack. Couldn't see anything obvious so did the adjustment on the scoop and reconnected the mini playfield.

Now the car swings open and sometimes it doesn't. sometimes it opens a bit and closes a bit. Sometimes it opens and closes OK in test modes and other times it doesn't. I was turning the shaft of the stepper motor by hand and I noticed that when I was doing this, the shaft was turning but the car was not swinging open or shutting. I checked where the car attaches to the shaft and I think I may have found the issue...the bracket that the car is on looks like it has been spot welded to the shaft and that weld has broken/cracked enabling the shaft to turn without turning the car. I confirmed this by marking a line on the shaft and a line on the bracket and then turning the shaft by hand and sure enough the lines are misaligned.

Thanks in advance dudes!

Andy

Good old Rens came through with the answer to this question within half an hour of me emailing him - on a Sunday!

Indeed, the old style car door I have was welded to stepper motor shaft.

Going to order mini playfield kit which has stepper motor fitted to bottom rather than it being fitted to under playfield.
