Taxi Illuminated Star Posts - Finished

Would like to see in the flesh to see if it does look as good and it's not "to much".
Will be getting some of these for some of my machines.
Nice work @lukewells

Awesome. Will they be for sale soon Luke?

I'm currently drawing up the v1.1 control board, and a second type of post light. Once these have been produced and tested, I will be ready to start selling them (if I don't use them all up on my own machines lol)

Yes of course, you will be welcome to see them in the flesh.

I've done Taxi in Blue, Torpedo Alley and Time Machine will be next, as they use red, green, blue and yellow posts, and I will be doing Bride of Pinbot in UV, so you will be able to see most colours in the flesh.

You can adjust brightness to your own taste, so it can be as subtle as you want. You'll have to wait till my v1.1 board is here to be able to see that as the v1.0 board could not handle 23 LED posts with dimming (new board will support up to 30 posts)

I like the idea if being able to adjust the brightness to your own taste.
Thinking of UV for Dracula.

Nice effect! Any chance of some really close-up pics of a post in action, please? Did you have the posts made with LEDs embedded or are these a super-thin disc of LEDs that sit under the original post (think I've seen that elsewhere)? And where do the wires go? Is it clever use of existing holes, e.g., GI, or do you have to drill the playfield anywhere? You say it has a controller board - is it totally independent from the gameplay or does it interface somehow so that they're controlled lamps, a bit like myPinballs's AFM saucer mod?

Wow! That was a lot of questions! Sorry, just curious

Sure, when my new posts arrive, these ones are the original on the machine so don't look perfect

Did you have the posts made with LEDs embedded or are these a super-thin disc of LEDs that sit under the original post (think I've seen that elsewhere)?

I have both.

v1 - Completely concealed pcb fits inside the star post. This one exists for lone posts that have no where to route the wires, you can route the wires out of the bottom (for moveable outane posts where a big enough slot will exist) or you can drill 0.7mm for the wires out of the bottom of the post, which is completely hidden. The third option is you can cut a slot in the post for the wires to escape, should you prefere this type of pcb to the one that the post has to sit on top of.

v2 - This is a super thin pcb that fits underneath the star post and a small tab sticks out of the side for routing the wires to the nearest hole in the playfield (such as a GI lamp socket) Unlike competitors mine does not have a bunch of diodes and resistors sticking out of the side and is much more compact.

And where do the wires go? Is it clever use of existing holes, e.g., GI, or do you have to drill the playfield anywhere?

As above, in most caes you can use existing holes, but for lone posts and outlane posts you need to use the concealed version where the wires exit from the bottom.

You say it has a controller board - is it totally independent from the gameplay or does it interface somehow so that they're controlled lamps, a bit like myPinballs's AFM saucer mod?

v1 - just controlls the brightnes for up to 30 posts.

Later revisions will feature more controllable channels as well as possible game interaction

No problem :)

Hi,

Hopefully not long now, both types of star post PCB have been finalised.

The delay has been in re-working the controller board to keep the cost as low as possible. I am waiting to receive my second version prototype soon :)

Luke, you have an order pending from me for Rollergames. Gonna bling the living daylights out of it and I need all red LED star posts! :D

Cool :)

My Rollergames is going to get the same treatment, infact I will be illuminating all 24 of my machines in due course

Controller PCB rev 2 is in the pool waiting for production and I have started collecting parts into stock to make these all once finalised

Bit cold this time of year to be using the pool?

Could you put some photos up of your roller games once done. I think it's a great machine and would particularly suit those posts.

I am in pinball limbo at the moment and don't have space for a machine just yet so enjoy a bit of pin porn in the meantime! This should get me rubbing my thighs Vic reeves style

Great work @lukewells. I think they look great in the taxi picture you posted above

Will do mate. It's getting the high end restore treatment, though never be for sale, so I'll take some good photos of it.

Exactly, what crazy person would sell a Rollergames? They don't fetch enough money to justify their awesomeness

I might bang it on eBay for 5 grand just to see if there's any bites haha :D

Any more news on these Luke?

I'm in the process of stripping R&B down and was looking to get rid of those horrible original posts and fit some star posts instead. Then it hit me that maybe I should look at some of these illuminated star posts.

No problems Luke. I've only just started stripping the playfield so it's going to be a few weeks before everything is cleaned and back together.
