Is there any way of bench testing the magnetic switches that on on the Sega SWT.

Have issues with the switch on the X-wing. It is riveted in so don't want to drill it out if not required. I have put a switch in on its own and proved it works but have 2x new xwing cannon assemblies and the switches don't work on both. Not sure if it is due to the metal trough or if it is the switches.

Cheers

No replies but have sussed it. The info about the switches was at the beginning of the manual not in the relevant section :mad:

Anyway stick the multimeter on diode setting (red lead on the white cable and black on the green)

And both switches on the new assemblies are knackered :(

Hey todler,

Sorry I can't help with your problem and to hear that both switches on the new assemblies are not working :( I hope it's something simple and you can resolve it soon.

My SWT is being naughty, am still investigating mine. If I can help you with pictures or info about mine, please ask and I'll happily try my best to help with pictures etc.

I hope you don't mind, but may I ask you what colour wires you have on your J8 connector in your back top box? I've been trying to diagnose mine and am a little confused from reading the manual.

Mine are as follows:

* not connected
* brown with purple flashes
* brown w/ blue
* brown w/green
* brown w/yellow
* brown w/orange
* brown w/red
* not connected
* brown w/black

The bit that's confusing is that on p88 of the manual it says:

"brown w/grey, coil not used/ optional"

and I'm sure I saw a brown w/grey wire when tracing those cables previously, so was wondering if it was supposed to be connected or not. No worries if you can't help with that question. All the best of luck with your fixing endeavours.

Cheers,

Johnny

Hi, picture attached of J8. I expect it is a standard loom and they have not connected anything to the other end. Just checked, according to the coil chart table it's used for a European token dispenser(unless they have connected something) Cable should be by the coin door somewhere.
Now I have established my switches are US I have no worries about drilling out the rivits and replacing them.
Just stripped, cleaned and rebuilt mine. Once I have sorted out the issue with the x wing canon and motor it's all good.
Cheers Tony
