Under playfield diverter stopped working which means the balls keep circulating on start up as it tries to load the cannon. Fuse 103 blown so I moved on to the drive transistor. Taking the board out, fortunately it’s the small additional driver board, I could see it was a bit of a horror show. Obviously had diverter problems previously.
Checked the transistor and it was bad. Desoldered to find no pads for the outer two legs, tried anyway but it wouldn’t take.
I can get a replacement from Germany but I thought I’d try jumpering to see if I could get any life out of it. Orange and grey wires are my “work”. See pic.
Powered up, went into test , no diverter movement but I could hear a faint pulsing sound as the test was on repeat, so something’s trying to happen.
I wanted to make sure it was the board at fault and not going down the wrong rabbit hole before getting a replacement board.
Any suggestions folks?
Cheers, Alan.

Tracks can be repaired and new through hole rivets fitted

Considered doing that Ronnie, machine belongs to the same bloke you repaired that T3 board.
My worry is it isn’t the board but something further down the line, that’s why I jumpered it.
I’ve got good voltage at the coil and continuity on the driver wire from coil to connector so I’m at a loss to see what else could be the problem.
Think I’ll send you the board but before you work on it could you check to see if it should work as is and LMK? I’d rather keep things original.
Cheers, Alan.

Ok I won’t have the ability to know if it should work, maybe drhex would be a better option for that

CONFESSION TIME.
@drhex @ronnie63
After mulling things over I thought I’d try the board again. I was perplexed that everything seemed in order, voltages, continuity etc and could hear faint pulsing sound when in test but no movement.
Well there won’t be any movement if you don’t reinstall the return spring to the plunger shaft you plonker!
Fished the spring out of the bottom of the cab, installed it and bingo, it works.
Might still get it repaired/replaced as the board’s a right mess but at least I know my soldering/bodging skills are OK.
Can’t really test the game yet as I need to order an AE 25-1000 coil to replace the one I robbed (the old one had melted) from the top diverter so I could test it,
Cheers, Alan.
