Strange lamp behaviour

Today, I had Q10 and Q42 replaced on my T2. The LEDs on the Hot Dog (Flasher circuit) need replacing, however I have noticed something odd going on.

- My CPU String lights still don't work, I was hoping the transistor swap would help but it didn't.

- When I go into lamp test, "Start Button" doesn't work - however, it does work as it should out of test. This has always been the case, pre-transistor swap but what I noticed by chance today is that when I test the Start button the Multiplier 6X button lightly flashes. You can only notice this under the playfield which is why I haven't noticed it before.

- I have also now noticed when pressing either flipper in game, the Top Lane Left, Top Lane Center, and Top Lane Right toggle through being lit up.

I replaced U7 and U8 opto's today too. Not sure if that is related (I did this in the hope it would fix my left flipper switch problem a it didn't) - but that has randomly fixed itself when I was reseatting ribbon cables. Perhaps it's been a combination of the two.

My credit dot is gone though, first time since I've had it so I'm making progress!

Great you are making progress. I expect you can now also use video mode properly too with both flippers working.

The cpu lights are on the green gi circuit so that should be q12 not q10 as you state above. Was it q12 you changed.

Sorry I have not yet had chance to get back to help you out some more but looks like you are doing great on your own.

On the 6x lamp and start lamp they are on the same row but in columns 1 and 8. You likely have a short between columns 1 and 8. This link has an excellent write up on lamp and switch matrices and some excellent videos too. It will give you more than you need to know in order to diagnose the fault and deals with the issue you have.

Don't apologise! When I put the new flippers in and has that fuse issues when I put the lugs together, I blew a transistor so I had to get the board taken off anyway. Two birds, one stone.

It was Q10 I changed. No difference. The electrician who did it confirmed it wasn't shorted but he changed it anyway.

I'm going to redo my tests sometime today, I found an excellent resource on Pinwiki to help. Your link will certainly help with that too.

The issues are getting less serious too, but it's got my OCD on the bottom. I want all lights working :)

I'm even going to have a go at changing coil sleeves in the kickback and plunger to see if I can get more "oomph".

The CPU lights are on the Green GI circuit which is transistor Q12 and not Q10. It was Q12 that was suspect, not Q10.

Coil sleeves are easy in comparison to what you have been doing. Take a photo of the assembly from all sides before dismantling. Clean the coils and mechanisms as best you can and at least polish the plungers using Autosol metal polish..

Coil sleeves arriving sometime this week. Will certainly be taking photos.

Q12 has been tested fine by this electrician guy as gave all the others. He was getting professionally frustrated because all he had was the board to go off and couldn't see the entire circuit. He's going to come next week and take a look, I'll be able to show him in person better (you know how much easier that is).

I'm going to buy some of the missing lamps too ready so hopefully we can fix one and fix all.

Does anyone know where I can get these? Pinball Heaven seem to only have "Stern" ones and they look different.

This is normal . You can select the lit /unlit lane for the ball to drop into.

Assisting with advancing Bonus Multiplier, etc. The original reason why 'Lane Change' was devised (and the name, if not the idea, trademarked). Sometimes with right side only, sometimes with left or right, or with two layers on the rollover lanes, sometimes with 3 functions (Right/Left/Both), even on occasion with a separate dedicated cabinet button. The gunsight in Video Mode was simply the newest usage at the time.
