Stern Whitestar CPU

Hi all.
I am used to repairing Williams 11B /C & WPC boards. How reliable is the Stern Whitestar CPU and are there any known issues to look for?

Very reliable if no battery corrosion! If it does it spreads far and wide

I never did understand why all the manufacturers put those bloody AA cell holders on the board. It was accident waiting to happen.. OK they did not have proper button cells or NVRAM technology, but why not screw the bloody thing to the Back-box and attach with a molex plug & socket Even the early Bally Ni-Cad could have been done this way and save 1000's of corroded boards
