Stargate service outlet

I’m building a cheap version of Pinlights, with some corner guards and led strips. The led strips power off usb, so 5v 2a I assume.

There’s an American style service outlet by the coin door, is it safe and functional to plug a us to uk adapter in there, uk phone charger and then connect that to the led strip and use while the machine is powered on?

The service outlet is generally live even when the game is switched off so that you can use it when working on the machine. It's only off when the game is switched off at the plug.

On some of my machines I have rewired the service outet within the power box so that it becomes switched so power only provided when game is switched on. Its quite straightforward to do this. Useful then as a supply for an independent 12v transformer to run power hungry mods such as pin2dmd. But for a few not so power hungry leds taking the 12v from the boards is easier.

Thanks, so either check the charger can go down to 110v if I use the outlet, or get some crocodile clips and some sort of adapter if I go off an existing connection?

Edit: I am fine with controlling the lights separately from the machine, so the outlet being always live doesn’t bother me.

Well if anybody wanted to see the results of the experiment, it’s not bad, but I don’t think I can put up with the side view of the leds.

Front on view is pretty decent and with some LEDs under the apron/pyramid I think it could look quite good, but I’m not sure I could get used to the side view 🤔

Service outlet will be at line voltage I.e 240v if in uk.
