Star Wars DE Led questions

Hi all, I’m sure this has been asked before but I have a few questions.
Im thinking of putting leds in my Star Wars machine. I have leds in the back box and they look terrible. More like spot lights. If you have a Star Wars pin what leds have you used for back box and playfield? There seems to be so much choice I don’t want it to look rubbish.

Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Steve

This is how the back box looks. I have not fitted any to the playfield . This looks rubbish.
They are supposed to look the same as normal bulbs in colour but don’t.

Everyone on here will tell you comet including me. I didn’t actually use comet on my Star Wars. I used pinball bulbs below. I had a 15% discount code somewhere if you want it. I have a CPR backglass which also helps although it’s more blue than the original.

For info - I’m pretty sure I’ve just got frosted natural white in the backbox. Frosted to avoid glaring hotspots on parts of the backglass. I tried a green behind Yoda and it looked horrible so stuck with white.

Thanks for the reply. Reply helpful and they look good. What’s this new backglass you mention? I just have the standard one at present.
I will look up the leds on your link.

Thanks
Steve

Stick with the standard one. The CPR glass is a real mirrored backglass to finish a pretty comprehensive refurb.

I reckon your best option could be bulk buy 100 of each - wedges and bayonet frosted natural white and fill up the backbox and playfield as far as possible. That’s what I’m doing for two other machines - not bothering with fancy colours.

I purchased a job lot of used leds from a member on here and colour co ordinated the back glass, there’s violets, reds , yellows and greens in it I think, looks great. I’ll try and add some photos next time I’m home.

For the big red Star Wars lettering and 10 million inserts on the playfield use a 2 or 4 SMD red bulb. The only time I use a colour bulb on a playfield insert is when they are large. White will wash out the colouring of a large insert as can be seen in Pinlb’s photo.

Colour led lights don’t always photograph well. See the rainbow puke thread on pinside.
I’d recommend a frosted white for the translite. I usually use warm white, but the type of white is personal preference. Here is mine done by the previous owner. I’m wondering if you have a faded translite. Consider new or adding adding a sheet of Mylar behind it.

Mine are colour coordinated inserts on SW. It’ll be the photos.

I’m doing two refurbs now and just going natural white on every bulb for both machines with OCD LED or equivalent.

After price I bet the next biggest discussion on pinball is LEDs. I reckon they’re over rated.

Small update.
I have gone with a led strips and think it looks ok.
The picture are before and after. I have since tidied up the led strips as it was just to try them. I’m very pleased with it for now.
Thanks for all all replies . I did try white frosted meds in the Star Wars red letters and looked washed out like you said so will get red leds to replace.
