Hi, I have a staple gun however the staples are too wide for the GI Braid & Lamp holders
Can anyone recommend something with thinner staples?

I have looked at the cable tack guns which seem o be a better size however i dont like the idea of rounded staples

Thanks
Rob

I measured the holes from when I removed the GI bulb holders on my R&B. It looks like the original staples were 8mm wide whilst the ones i've got with my new staple gun are 10mm. I'm not sure the extra 2mm width is a problem as the originals weren't tight up against the edge of the bulb holder mounts anyway.

The one frustration I have had is that the Javellin staple gun I got came with a limited number of staples and it seems almost impossible to get additional staples for it. I'm still on the mission to track them down at the moment.

PinRestore sell a staple gun and the copper staples that are used for mounting the earth braid; I suspect the same would also work for the GI bulb holders too, but the problem is that the staple gun is pneumatic and I don't have a compressor. I also suspect the cost of getting it from the US would be prohibitive. http://pinrestore.com/Tools.html

They are NOT copper staples, they are copper coloured staples.
I'd like to see you getting copper staples into wood. You'd have more success with spaghetti.

Thanks for your replies, I think the info has put me on the right path.

The air staple gun from pinrestore uses what are known as Type 71 staples, these are available in the UK at about £5 for 5000. They are 9mm wide at varying depths.

There are a few guns around that use them, if you want a long nose they are about £90 but i found a standard one for about £40 although i have not spent a lot of time searching

Both of these need a compressor but i am ok on that front.

Thanks again for your help

Good find Rob.

I'm SOL when it comes to pneumatic staples as I can't justify the cost of investing in a compressor just for this. Thankfully i've found a few electric staplers which support Type 71 staples so that might be a viable route for me.

@replicas Yeah, poor choice of wording on my part, but worth pointing out.

Sorry, stupid question but I presume a long nose stapler is only beneficial when you've got to get into tight spaces?

In my case the playfield is fully stripped so it should be fairly straight forward. Any ideas on what length staples are used for the GI bulb holders and wires?

As I don't have a compressor i'm looking at maybe grabbing a Tacwise 71ELS. Sure it's not the cheapest option but at least you can get the staples for it easily enough and i've no doubt it'll come in handy for future projects.
