Hi all,
I have a set of Dugs speaker lights.
I’ve troubleshot it to being the controller at fault as it’s just flickering light and not changing.
Pulled a controller from another set on a pin and works ok with the LEDs.
Question:-
What's the input voltage required to power the controller?
See attached image of Dugs Controller, the range is DC 5-24volt
A replacement controller I have found is DC 12 volt - would this work?
Help appreciated.DF932BCB-634F-4646-8EA3-8063173EDFE3.jpeg

I think you should run it on 5v.
If your led are 5v that is.
Not all of those driver step down so you may blow the led's

One of my transformers went bad too - luckily it locked into Purple, which is exactly what I need in Metallica, so I just left it.

^^^^^Funny that, it locked to purple also.... for a while..
But then started just flickering

Probably due to the 12v and not 5v

If you look at the input and output text.

If it was regulated it would say 5-24vdc input 5v output.
But the output says 5-24vdc meaning it outputs what is put in.

You may have damaged some led's due to the 12vdc input.
Just place 5v in and they should run if not damaged.

I bought this unit to step down from 12v to 5v.

Mmm, dugs light transformer claims to have a range of 5v input and output.
I’m no expert but I hope my other lights don’t start doing the same....
The actual LEDs - are fine though as I tested them with a different controller 👍

Check the led tape and see if it has a voltage shown.
Most are 5v but they do do 12vdc versions

If the tape is 12vdc then your ok and it maybe a rouge led or short somewhere

OK check the led tape for written voltage.

Test the power out onthe tape driver unit.

If they match measurement and led tape voltage then your ok. It just a faulty led etc.

If they dont match then you need to stepdown the supply to your led tape driver.

I’ve ordered the controller - It comes via Prime tomorrow 👍
Ill check everything over - I’ll let you know how it goes - hopefully no blue smoke or popping 😂
Appreciated @Vimtoman

My standard light kits use +12v. My Deluxe light kits use +5v. As someone stated, what the controllers say on them as the acceptable voltage input is dependant on what type of light strips they are controlling.

All it would have taken to clear this up would have been a simple e-mail to me and all of this false information about having to jump the power down to +5v could have been avoided...and the OP could have got a replacement RGB controller shipped to him.
