Sound interface error and dead flipper

Hi Guys,
I've been getting a sound interface error on my Williams Indy, which caused it to randomly reset. Yesterday I replaced all the ribbon cables with those from my STTNG and was having a few games to test it out. It did not reset the game at all on those few games (although in the boot up tests it still said the Sound interface error). Then whilst playing I heard a hum while using the right flipper and shortly after that the flipper went dead. The solenoid on the 'dead' right side was a lot hotter than the left when I checked afterwards. Any thoughts - could the issues be connected? Is the flipper dying just coincidence?
I need to have a good look at it all so any advice is appreciated. I gather the Sound interface error can be a tricky little thing.
By the way - I have a pinsound board, not sure if that adds any complication or not.
Cheers.

I had something like this with my TZ that has pinsound except my flippers went weak and maybe stopped I can’t quite remember but it was down to the ribbon cables.
I fitted new which were very tight to fit and has worked fine since.

Hot flipper could be badly set EOS switches, or the flipper opto boards failing.

Put the game into SWITCH TEST and activate any switch. Then walk away. You may see and hear 'beeps' and it will show you the last switch activated. If it is the flipper opto then change it.

I would also clean the optos too.

Have you plugged and unplugged the ribbon cables with the game on? Are they lined up correct?

Do a flipper test and just see if the HOLD power is working, then it could be just a TIP36.

If your coil has got too hot it also may be knackered.

Check the soldering on the coil for cold joints and check diodes.

If reboots still happen. Change the BR2 and capacitor linked to it. Also replace the 5v regulator.

Phil Palmer does the above but can not see it on the site.

Pinsound sucks current. I am shocked you are getting sound interface error. Can you not put original board back in?

Thanks for the suggestions. Yes - the interface error was the first issue to appear and I read it is often the ribbon cables. Figured a swap with my STTNG would tell me before spending 50 quid on a new set. I could put the original sound board back in to check, but thought the ribbon swap would be quicker and then the flipper thing happened, so now fault tracing 2 issues that may or may not be connected. Time is always the issue, so trying to get a list of most likely causes and then have a big service session I guess.

The right flipper is completely dead by the way. In switch levels the flipper button registers but as the flipper does not move it doesn't close the eos switch to register it. As the flipper button is regeistering I'm assuming the opto is working, but I could swap it with the left one to double check.

Quick update on flipper: The F901 fuse had blown. It was 3V, I swapped with a 5V to check (didn't have a 3V lying around) and the flipper is back up and working. However, I noticed that when I hit the flipper it also flashes the outline GI bulb momentarily which is odd. Maybe that caused the fuse to blow?
Will get some 3V fuses and swap back, then continue testing the sound interface stuff, which is still showing as an error.

Maybe the connection is loose on the outlane lamp, vibration from the flipper could cause it.
Good shout - it was exactly this.

Also, the game reset on me again and went into a weird reset loop but this allowed me time to get into the back box and fiddle. Seems to be a dodgy connection on the ribbon cable at J1. I'm assuming the cable is ok as it's been swapped over, so connection on the board may need looking at. Either way, fiddled with it and now it's not showing up as an error.

And as a bonus I fixed a couple of loose lamps, and a rollover switch seemed to fix itself. That's pinball I guess guess.

Hopefully the issue is sorted - thanks for the suggestions and support! Cheers
