Hi All

My Space Invaders sound board. I have changed and uprated all the capacitors on this board, the pot appears to be working, to say as well as it probably has ever been and the board itself is working. It is seems pretty fine on the higher pitch noises but is distorting with the deeper sounds. Have used a new speaker with no improvement. I also get the hum (buzz) when the highest score is being displayed. So an on and off noise corresponding with the display going on and off.

Hope you can help, Wigs

jim does indeed make a replacement,I bought one off him to use in mine,it works well although I did have to add a sound pot,as space invaders does not have one on the coin door like other bally pins,if you just need the 3 ic replaced.I have a spare set I could sell you

Thanks Steve

I want to try and keep it as original as possible for as long as possible. I'm good on IC's, maybe I should go through them all and see if there is any difference when I swap them. Thought it might be some amplification problem as well as some surpresion issues so have not tried all my IC's. Did your SI hum buzz when flashing the high score?

Cheers Wigs

yes it did, with the old one,but it turned out to be due to a faulty hv section on the solenoid driver board,I rebuilt it and that problem went away,my original soundboard had been badly bodged in the past which was why I bought a new one,it turned out the non socketed ic's were bad, which was why I bought a few to replace them, ive since sold the original board once I fixed it,and kept jims

Thanks again Steve, I understand that we can only go so far with these machines before it is not viable. My sound board has pads missing, new legs soldered onto IC's that have snapped off and link wires but as long as my sound chip on U4 keeps going, I'll do all that I can to keep it going. Got a little bit of time off, so solenoid driver board is on the hit list today. Cheers Wigs
