Hi all- Merry Xmas forum members! Been playing SM today and the flippers died on me on two different occasions without a tilt warning and the bob is defo not set tight. Checked the menu and this came up as a tilt bob switch error. Have tried tilting on purpose and this registers as normal on the display. Any ideas what to check or how to rectify? Probably 40 games on it today nudging and shaker motor going- so only happening very rarely

Silly question to start with but have you checked that there’s nothing near to or leaning against the tilt bob, like the operation manual or anything else stored in the cabinet?

Yeah it looks clear- I’m gonna have a proper investigate tomorrow morning. Currently out of the house so can’t check on it tonight

Did you get a tilt message or did the flippers just stop working?

And what did you do to start them up again? Or could you just start a new ball as with tilt?

Yeah- as soon as it drained, the power returned on the next ball and flippers worked as normal

Strange, power is there all the time though? Latest software installed?

I had this once on my Spiderman, flippers would die as if the ball had drained, but the ball was still in play. It was one of the trough connectors, it was loose. I bent the male pins apart slightly, so the female plug would fit more snug. It cured the problem.

Tech Alert shows Switch D-17 Tilt Pendulum being an issue. Checked wiring around tilt Bob and nothing obvious seems off. Disassembled the ball trough cover to check for a loose contacts and visually can’t find any problems.
I’ve also noticed I’ve 3 more tech alerts for my EOS switches for all 3 flippers. I’d fitted a new actuator and a new bushing. Flipper leaf switches look fine- game is playing fine right now but I’ll keep an eye out for the problem reoccurring. I’d imagine it’ll do this again at some point.

Put another 10 (albeit) mediocre games on it and no issue. Looked at the opto sender and receiver bulbs in the trough and both seem ok. Is this board worth replacing?

Checked the opto board connections again and found some dirt / black around the solder. Cleaned off carefully and switch alert message now gone 🤞
