I hope this is in the right place to ask, but does anyone have any experience of shipping a pintable machine (costs, who does it etc. etc.) from The States?

I know Ken, over on ukvac, still offers this service, he has a container due to leave soon, I think. But he is on the east coast, so you would need to get your pin to him first, palletted up etc.

Check out his post on ukvac for contact details and costs.
 
You can ask any big shipper to do this for you - will be reasonably expensive and will need boxing up if you want it in one piece. Did ship one once the other way years back and that cost 1500 €.

If this is for the Chicago Coin Playtime you were after then it's going to make it one expensive EM machine.
 
Yeah, not sure what rough prices you were thinking @Dinkysaurs but even if you did manage to get in with Ken, you have his fees to pay, but the US shipping will sting you probably as much if not more depending in how far West it is. Then your fees when it lands in the UK to your door, etc.

Ball park I would suggest is always going to be around 2k.

It is, and you are right of course, which makes me kick myself even more for selling the one I had in the 90s 😢 But I really loved that machine

Thank you (I think) as I watch the opportunity to own a Playtime again sink slowly into the sunset, but at least I have its sister machine Gunsmoke coming next week, and it even crossed my mind to adapt it to a Playtime, as I don't think it would take that much work, BUT it would mean, of course, it would be an altered machine
 
There are plenty of EM's available in this country and playable ones usually fetch between £400 and £800 depending on condition.

I am sure you will gain equal enjoyment from any of them after you have played them a few times.
Nostalgia is a strong feeling but it can also make you throw common sense out of the window and I hope you get pleasure from whatever machines you end up with. 👍
 
OMG - "it can also make you throw common sense out of the window" You are so right (!!), as I was becoming obsessed with getting another Playtime, so let's hope this CC Gunsmoke can fill that void.

Though, my son simply does not understand the desire, and has told me on a couple of occasions to forget it, and go for a more interesting (in his mind) 80s or 90s machine
 
Electro Mechanical machines are great :)
Early Solid States are great :)
90's DMD's are great :)

The good bit is that EM's are fairly cheap to buy and if you have the space then get one of each of the other types too :p

All bases covered...............................play ball !!

Thank you. I may well get another one from the 80/90s if only to please my son, but I also need space for a decent jukebox
