Sega X Files for sale. This is an under-rated game in my book, it borrows elements from ToM like the mini loop going behind the playfield toy (in this case a filing cabinet you lower then shoot the ball into) and the trap door in front of the right ramp. Four loop shots makes for fast action - there is great music and sound effects too!

You play as Mulder or Scully (which character you choose makes a difference for multiball and bonus scoring) and the main objective is to complete 8 X Files episodes and a trivia round (the closest it gets to a video mode!) to get to the final episode "Blood", which is the wizard mode. There are also two main multiball modes, Cabinet (3 ball) and The Truth 4 ball.

The game is fully working and plays very well. Since I've had it I have replaced the outgassed display (with a better used one not a brand new one) so it's strong and bright with no dots out, both of the Cabinet opto switches are now working so the magnet works properly (including capturing and holding the ball in multiball) I have also replaced some of the lamps with LEDs such as under the big X on the playfield and the top EBE lanes so these are much more visible which I think makes a difference during gameplay. I haven't gone right through the game though so it could do with a proper clean and a few new GI bulbs, but that's about it!

The cab is pretty good as are the legs. There is a latch that's been fitted to the side of the backbox, which has no lock.

One thing to note is that there is wear on the playfield in front of the filing cabinet, above the magnet.. A previous owner had covered the with a metal plate which he'd both screwed and stuck to the playfield which caused more damage when it was removed......sigh. Fortunately it's mainly dark artwork underneath so I have touched up where the wood was worn and holes with black enamel paint, which I think makes it look a lot better.

I'm after £850 (edit, now £800) any questions or if you want more pics please shout!

Cheers,
Andy

I liked x-files when I owned one, sadly only lasted 5 weeks in my collection.

You mention the metal piece before the filing cabinet you removed - it seems some pictures on IPDB seem to show a metal flap on the PF in front of the cabinet, and then other pictures don't. Are my eyes deceiving me?!

To the best of my knowledge the metal piece was not originally fitted to games but it became clear that the action of the magnet was causing damage to the playfield, so Sega made a protector available which was the metal piece!

A piece of Mylar fitted during production would probably have stopped any wear happening in the first place......
