Scared Stiff - crate is always unlocked

Hi all,

I’m looking for some pointers on fixing an issue on my Scared Stiff.

The crate no longer locks, so every hit, the ball goes inside it (rather than it being locked for a few shots before unlocking).

Anyone have any ideas?

First thing I would do is test the coil in test mode. Coil could be locked on, leaving the create open

This is what the mech underneath looks like, the metal rod could also be broken, coil activates to open the crate

Yup that'll be it! Found it snapped off in the bottom of the machine. Just ordered a new one. Thanks for the help finding the issue

Hey all, we've got a replacement pin but I'm struggling in removing the top two screws from the coil. I'm guessing I just take it off and pop the new pin in there?

The screws seem a bit stubborn to move and started to shear slightly so I've stopped trying for now. Anyone know the particular right screwdriver for this or have any tips for removing? I've removed a few coils previously for flipper and troll rebuilds.

The screws have threadlock on. Warm the screws up with a hot air gun (on low) or a decent hairdryer (on high). Take care not to burn/scorch anything. That should free up the screws.

Hello,

This isn't a unit that I've tackled before, but if the coil stop and coil can be removed (I'm wondering if those are the right bolts for it - I'd expect the hex-recess bolt & washer to be found on a flipper assembly), then could the spring retaining collar/E-ring be taken off the coil plunger, and the old plunger dropped out?

If those are the fasteners which won't move, a tip re. thread-lock that I heard from a Williams touring trade demonstrator was to use isopropyl alcohol, such as tape head cleaner drops, to help release the set t/lock compound
