My ST has a bit of damage around the outhole and in the shooter lane I'd like to touch up.

Now I've got some varnish leftover from a DIY project - would that be ok to use as a clearcoat of the PF please?

Me, honestly, no. Acrylic or 2K lacquer, yes. Bear in mind all flakes, dirt and crud will be encased in the lacquer so it has to be supah-dupah clean. But you knew that. Keep the touch-up area tight and repair as little as you can. If the PF is still complete and in the machine (and it looks like it is) it will make it trickier and you might want to just dab in with a brush.

I think this is a skilled repair job tbh, one I personally wouldn't want to start to try learning about through trial and error on a playfield - particularly with the playfield still populated. I guess, just be cautious of making it worse :)
