After finally securing a house there was one thing on my mind - I can finally, finally, get my own table and there was just one I wanted. In 2016 it was Metallica Pro the introduced me to pinball but Roadshow was the one that made me love it. I had planned for years to get this table. Constantly researching machine repair, buying small tools and tid-bits to keep the excitement at bay - I was so ready when I finally got my chance.
Originally I had planned to buy my RS from a local arcade owner - it turned out he was looking for a silly amount for a pretty beat up machine. It had some sentimental value to me but not as much as I think he was banking on. So, I decided out of my own pride to find my own RS and did, in a small seaside town of Scotland called Dunoon. A lovely guy called Euwan who I met on the Roadshow Owners Group on facebook said it was mine to take for a fair price, but I had to get it down the stairs of his house, he could not ship it to me.
So, a plan was formed. On the 13th of November '21 myself and my best friend set out on a 24 hour 500 mile round trip to Dunoon from Dublin, complete with four ferry journeys. Euwan had failed to mention since he saved the RS from his local arcade tip in '98 that they had a wheelchair lift installed on the stairs - so, all of a sudden we had to CARRY the RS down the stairs as it was far too narrow for our trolly. Christ it was literally mental how hard it was, some one could have died - no joke.
Anyway - to cut a long story short we got it back to Ireland and took it to my office, I knew we'd have to remove the backbox in order for it to fit into my house - so instead of doing it in my garden in the dead of the night we took it to my animation studio and I painstakingly labelled every connector and took her apart. I'm glad I did, I think I really learned a lot about the machine doing it and part of the fun for owning a table for me will be the repairs. SO. Here we are. It's a month later and I will be taking three days off over Christmas to do nothing but completely shop my machine with 3K+ of mods, replacement lights - literally everything to make it a beautiful example.
The machine is completely perfect, it's insane how clean it is. I have to think that every last part is nearly original. Euwan mentioned that it has essentially been sitting in his game room unplayed for nearly 15 years next to his Creature from the Black Lagoon.
I love RS, there is just something about it I can't describe. The wizard mode being made or missed by two perfect locks at the end of the game gives it such replay value for me as every time I reach the west coast it's do or die - I love that.
So I've started this log, really mostly for myself - to keep a record of the great time I'm going to have fixing Rosey up. I've waited for years and years and years, I **** you not - I've been looking forward to this since I started playing and now I really can't wait to get started.
So, 500 miles, 4 ferries and 1 best mate later - let's wreck' some ROADDDDDDDDDD

A quick Recap -----> 24 Hour, 500 mile round trip from Dublin to Dunoon, Scotland. Taking the machine back to my office to remove the head (learned as I went). Back to my house into the shed - the shed is incredibly dusty and dirty, cue 4 days clearing it out completely with industrial levels of dust and dirt. Put the machines head back on, Relax with a beer. Play 100 odd games with a bogus right flipper (coils never changed afaik). Spend the following month aquiring 3K of mods and tools in anticipation of a MEGA 3 day binge shopping the machine. I'm in heaven.
