R1 is missing from the board. It's the only resistor on the board.

Theres a clear picture of this replacement board with a larger Resistor, going by the colour banding of green brown brown silver it should be 510 Ohms with +/-10% tolerance.
Although this thread on pinside suggests 150 Ohms, and on the link below the picture of the original board seems to have different colour bands on the resistor.

And this version shows a 470 Ohm resistor fitted.
and the one on Ebay looks like why the your resistor is missing...looks like it;s under-rated and getting tooooo hot...

Assuming the original was a 470 oms 1/4 W. I might try a 2W one
I would if it was me. Might just be chipped, however to me the coating would only come away if it was getting warm.
can't see the point of that resistor R1 as it's in parallel with the coil, the diode will suppress any spikes!

Is it to drain the capacitor when there is no power to the circuit? Stop arcing in the relay contacts?
