RBION sound problem

I've just bought a Ripleys and after setting it up I immediately noticed a problem with the sound. Some of the sounds are coming through as a distorted garbled mess, the previous owner hadn't noticed because he wasn't very familiar with the machine and to be fair there are a lot of random sounds and noises from this machine. I am very familiar with it however as I've played RBION to death on the pinball arcade.

Going into the menu>diag>speaker and cycling through the tests the sample from chip U21 is a very distorted mess. I've tried pulling the chip off the board and re-seating it but it made no difference.

This is my first stern machine, my guesses are a problem with the board/chip socket or the chip itself. Can these chips be purchased? Can they be flashed? ( looking at you Paul! ). Is there something else I haven't thought of? Really any advice appreciated.

Cheers

Kev

U21 is part of the sound "stack".... Not sure if/how many 8Meg Eproms i have (Since they cost far too much!!). I'll take a look tonight and let you know - if you dont hear from me by tomorrow fire me a gentle reminder ;)

Cheers
Paul

Just to close out this thread with a resolution, thanks to the great ROM service Paul gives my RBION is back to full health. I first updated the OS to OS8 which didn't fix the problem but still nice to know its upto date now. Then today I swapped out the U21 ROM and now all the distorted sounds are gone.
