I know this is some way off, but for those of us considering this for next year what are your thoughts about combining this with a trip to Vegas? I for one wouldn’t cross the Atlantic for pinbrough alone and would combine this with something else.

Can anyone attend pinbrough or does one need to be seeded via ifpa rankings?

It’s called Pinburgh. All you need to attend is a ticket. It’s up to you if want to combine it with something!

Neil.

How do I edit my topic title? I wonder if anyone else plans to combine their trip with something or just travel all that way for the event! Plenty of time to plan

For those who have been previously where have you stayed and how much has this cost (excluding flights) as need to ensure I have the funds to go!

The event looks like a massive play expo as there are video games there too! I assume entry tickets gets you access to that too.

Many thanks

£250 for the ticket to Pinburgh
Probably 500-1000 for Airbnb or hotel
200 for food.

And it’s nothing like play expo - it’s a million times better.

I'd say it is exactly like Play Expo... but a million times better. It has arcade games, retro video games/consoles, board games, cosplay and a LOT of pinball. It's just Play Expo on steroids

For those down South, I believe you can get direct flights to Pittsburgh from London (Heathrow?) now. Oop North we don't have that luxury, so I usually combine it with a few days in NYC to get over the jet lag. NYC is the shortest/cheapest direct flight for us.

I’ll stick to my previous view! One is a super well organised fantastic celebration of gaming, one is a load of rubbish!

The direct flights only run on certain days or at least did when I tried to book. I wanted to get the direct flight but also fly out early enough to avoid jet lag and had to get connecting flight because of that. Dave the taxi driver got the direct flight I think.

Neil.

No it’s for _Cigars_, gambling and hookers surely?!

Ahhh, love Vegas went in 1996 when I was in the Marines for some R&R and again in 2013 to get married.
If you need a hotel recommendation - The Cosmopolitan- East Tower overlooking the Bellagio Fountains. One of the few hotels with rooms with a wrap around terrace -was supposed to be condos but building company went bust so they turned it into a hotel 👍

We’re going via a week in Florida this year. Few days by the pool, couple of days in the parks and a couple of days at Kennedy. Then flying up on the Tuesday. Booked the flights and the Florida part already. Pinburgh is almost a month earlier next year.

Wow you’re keen! Can always do Pinburgh first then stay on. It’s a 3 day event right?

Never understood the attraction of Vegas. Is it just because Americans are so restricted as to places to gamble? It all just looks a bit tacky. Like Blackpool on a sunny day 😉

I was the same, had never been and didn’t fancy it. Went on the way and way back from a cruise a few years ago. Had a couple of days each side of the cruise, had a great time, caught a show (phantom) and did all the attractions at the hotels etc. Saying that we got casino credit with both of our hotels (mgm grand on way, planet Hollywood on way back) didn’t use any of it so maybe we’re not their target audience...

It’s a lot better and not as tacky as I thought it would be

Mind you I’m massively out of step with popular culture

Never seen a football match
Only seen one Star Wars movie
Never seen any of the fast and furious series
Think I’ve been up McDonald’s once.
Popped into the Gap once. Didn’t care for it 😉(because as everyone knows I’m a fashion icon)

Not knocking people who like it. Just not my thing.

Sorry..........But you cannot put Star Wars and then 'The Fast and the Furious' in the same milestones! :)

Can I ask which one Star Wars film you saw? Did you not want to know how it ended.......

Thanks for all your comments! Have you seen Hobbs and shaw yet?

[/QUOTE]

I saw the one with the gay robot love story. Guess it was the first one in the late 70s. 😉. Was kind of hoping it ended with a trash compactor.

(Just to add fuel to the fire. Saw the goonies karate kid and the big labowski for the first tim in the last 10 years or so. Thought they were all dreadful. Not quite as bad as the 2nd Indiana Jones movie. Still not made it to the end of that but willing to have a go if there is an alternative annoying kid death scene in it)

As an aside I worked with a man who took out a 100k mortgage extension to buy more Star Wars action figures. So not anti any of it. Just never bought into it. Each to their own.

For full disclosure I grew up in a house where ITV was viewed as being something “other people” watched. So also never saw TISWAS, muppets etc. There’s a large part of 70s/80s mass culture that I missed out on.

one of the good things about having kids is you get to see films that passed you buy at the time. Saw home alone for the first time in 2008. Liked it.

Saw monsters inc around the same time and 100% will admit I missed out not seeing it first time around.

So much more to it than gambling - epic place

I understand the Vegas bit, I was turning down a free trip everything paid for a few years ago calling it the same Blackpool in the sun, and was talked into going,
Glad I did, I loved it, the people watching was great and with a group had a great time, so much so I took a group a few years later.

Football in my view should never and hopefully never will go to being anything but a working class game, hate going to a match with middle class rugby loving fags who drone on about how you don’t get swearing at rugger.
I grew up watching my father who never swore normally, threatening to kill the ref and swearing like the sea dog he had been in earlier years halcyon days.
I agree with Micheal Palin that football was a great release for working class men of their pent up anger
