Pinball Newbie - Only Been Playing for 60+ Years
Only just managed to join Pinball Info
When I first tried to join ages ago, after completing the "Join" form, I received a rejection message for using a VPN server. I use this for protection security purposes in connection with my business. After the rejection, there seemed to be no easy way to query it or contact anyone at Pinball Info, so I gave up trying.
Someone recently informed me that The Blackpool Pinball Club project was still alive, so I managed to join, with a slight change to my preferred username.
Question: Why the big problem with members using a VPN?
😎

Thanks.
I used to help out at amusement arcades which our family owned, one on Blackpool Promenade, and one on Dale Street, Blackpool.
Some were actual pinballs, pre-flippers! Ours were never the latest new games, but were probably the best maintained in Blackpool.

Hi Lawrence,

It’s in the site rules, we have had over the years quite a lot of scam/fake accounts who try to register with a VPN..

Welcome. I am across the water from you in Southport. I spent many, many hours touring the Blackpool arcades in the late 80's & all through the 90's.
I started playing very young, I used to have to carry a bucket around with me so I could see over the height of the games. Some of my earliest and warmest pinball memories were made here, such as playing a line of Zaccaria games in Coral Island, playing Space invaders in Mr B's before my arm span was wide enough to reach each flipper on either side, (my mum played the opposite flipper)
They had really impressive line of 80's solid states, Black Knight was my favourite.
Then a little later on, Coin castle had bought in a new in box Terminator 2, which we watched being unboxed, put on site and we were the first ones to play it.
Lots of pinball events going on these days, hope to see you at some soon 😊👍

with a slight change to my preferred username.
Hi Lawrence - Please let me know your preffered username and i will adjust for you.

We validate all account requests manually - this way we try to keep the userbase Genuine. The reason VPN's are blocked is because, as MUFCMUFC says above, it's easy nowadays to pretend you are in one place when you really are in another. Apologies for the frustration.

I would prefer to change it to Lawrence Chard, which was my original choice, so it may still exist in your records but be blocked because of the VPN.
Is it now OK to login using the VP, or will it cause problems?

Yeah 60 odd years is some serious dedication, be interesting to hear some of your thoughts on pinball over the years
