I was fortunate enough to spend some time in Budapest earlier this week with my other half.
The pinball museum was at the top of my "to visit" list which I had heard good things about and has even previously been covered by Martin at
http://www.pinballnews.com/learn/pbalgallery/index.html
I must say what a fantastic place, we both agreed we preferred it over the pinball hall of fame in Las Vegas.
The main reason for this is the set up of the place, it has separate rooms with different themed machines in each room and most importantly 95% of the machines worked properly as apposed to a 60-70% working at PHOF in Vegas. PHOF also just have all their machines in one massive room.
Most of the machines available to play are from the 80's-90's and the newest machine was Tron, although saying that they had more machines out the back which I am guessing they alternate with and open the area up on special occasions. In amongst them was a ST Premium.
The pricing structure has slightly changed from when previously reported on. Now there is a flat rate of 3000 HUF (£9) for unlimited free play until close.
They have acquired a few more rare machines as well including the massive Hercules which unfortunately wasn't working whilst I was there.
It was good to compare Rapid Fire and Hyperball, both of them a cool idea, unfortunately the novelty wears off pretty quickly.
One of the most interesting games that was new to me was this Italian oddity Motor Show which I thought was ahead of its time (1989) complete with a colour screen and boasting 3 video modes. I got to play one of the 3 of them. One of them was a button basher dragster mode, the other a racing game similar to the one in Getaway. The game features different themed racing modes including Rally and F1 reminded me of a car version of Full Throttle.
It's a shame the lights prevented better photos of the play field.
A lot of the games had a board nearby with the information provided.
I also enjoyed an Italian take on the Bally classic Playboy featuring a video screen where the player is rewarded with different snap shots of women in various poses once you have achieved the required shots to engage it.
There are a few more (sorry more than a few) snaps which I have added as thumb nails. Anyone not sure of their next holiday destination look no further than Budapest.
The museum is also located 5 minute walk away from a major shopping center, perfect to leave the other half whilst you go and play pinball.
