Sunday afternoon. A church hall somewhere. A group of men sit in a circle, avoiding eye-contact. One of them stands up. And speaks.

My name is Matti and I am addicted to pinball.
I own a table. I play it every day.
When I am not playing it, I play digital pinball on my PS4. I also own digital pinball on my phone, tablet and laptop. I used to own digital pinball on my PS1, PS3 and PS Vita.
I watch videos of pinball being played.
I read game rules and tips
I look at photos of restoration jobs.
I often drive hundreds to miles to join other addicts to get my next fix.
I search online for more tables to own.
I have clothing with Pinball on it.
I often encourage others to share my habit.

The other men nod in agreement. They know the signs of addiction all too well.

Oh yes remember them well always held the UK cup on the Sunday and one w/e endless monster energy cans yuk haven't touched the stuff since.

+1 ... You know, 6 or 7 years ago, UKVAC was on life support and I'd found pinball as another interest but there was no real community, no meets or shows like we had had in UKVAC. Pinball was growing, but it was so far behind socially that it surprised me. But then Pins Anon showed up with incredible energy and gave a shot in the arm to everybody. Suddenly the talk about meets and stuff wasn't talk anymore, everyone had a bandwagon to jump onto. We owe a lot to PA, warts 'n' all

And now guess what... UKVAC has risen from its slumber and now video games are on topic again. We may look back at now and say these were happy days as well!

Just read the Pinball News report for the 2009 Monster Meet which closed with:

The Monster Meet will be back in 2010 and is expected to be the same public-holiday weekend at the end of May, which will be the 29th to the 31st.

I've only been into for a couple of years. What happened to Monster Meet and Pinballers Anonymous, now a Japanese looking site for handbags? I hope nothing too sad or unpleasant.

Whilst avoiding a TL;DR or anything that ends up getting someone in trouble, I was just curious if was because of a disagreement, potential over-popularity for future events at the same venue, or maybe someone had passed on?

I don't need gory details and happy to leave it if some things are just best left in the past...

Reminds me of a scene from one of my favourite movies, "The light that burns twice as bright burns half as long. And you have burned so very very brightly, Nick."

Actually, it's nowhere near as interesting as the, best part of 20 year, history of UKVAC. That could be made into a film!

From what I remember Nick had a bad roll in his jeep and after that near death experience he decided to focus on his family etc

He had always been asking for help etc but only the usual few stepped up. Then the Heighway man took over the reigns for an annual pin show/meet.

The rest can stay in the past (few warts and disagreements but nothing overly exciting)

Ah the underwater popeye ...... good times

And before anyone gets upset, back when he did that, you couldn't give popeye pins away

That shot was taken at pinball Brian's (RIP) gaff, one of our regular pinball and poker players. It was close to winter in an outside pool and bloody cold, and he was wearing shorts and a t-shirt whilst the cameraman had a full wetsuit! The cabinet was am empty scrapper.
