PBR Great Turkey Leftovers Fry-Up 28-29 Dec

Thanks for confirming this on the points, I was thinking I would have scored more than I did @ 250% and didn’t understand how it works. What a shame it was only two players short.

Regardless, it was a really well run and fun competition with high quality play. Thanks to Neil and team PBR for running it.

I was disappointed to miss out on what would have been my first main finals by 1 ball playoff, but them’s the breaks.

Competitive play really has elevated my ability and understanding of the game, as well as increasing my enjoyment and offering a great social hobby where I have made new friends.

If you’re on the fence about playing competitively, don’t hesitate to give it a go, especially if you’re in London. PBR is a great venue with an extensive collection of machines and is easy to get to. The members are friendly and happy to give feedback and advice on how to play better.

I’m now at 10 qualifying competitions on my IFPA card and have advanced a lot thanks to the club.

Thanks, I thought that would be it.

Min 64 regularly is a tough target but would be great to see, just so many filters to get through. Willing to play a tournament > willing and able to afford to travel to / play at PBR or Tilt (realistically our only two venues big enough to safely host 64) > willing to play a two-day tournament (if wanting it to be certified) > available on that particular weekend.

Need to keep growing that player base and keep people coming back for more!

It's an aspiration to work towards, and it would only be for certain occasional "bigger" tournaments. Even getting closer to 64 players on a 200% one day tournament would be great (around 85 WPPRs for a 64 person PBR 200%er!) --- Maybe 107 WPPRs for a certified 2 day comp like the TurkeyFry Up or Monster Meet 2025 in Dec next year - as an illustration.

55 WPPRs with 46 rated players is already very good.

Obviously there is still tremendous fun and value in smaller tournaments as well - it's not all about big points. But it is good to have options, and to be able to test yourself against a larger/wider range of players with 16+ playoff berths available once in a while.

Absolutely, I love all tournaments (duh) and will continue to play them at all sizes. There is something special about having loads of people in the room though!

You played really well Francois, good play on that very mean Indy 500 especially.

Come join me in the one-ball playoff haters club lol

UK isn't big enough to attract over 64 players on a regular basis

The points are meaningless in my eyes. Just cause someone turns up at every event doesn't make them a better player cause they have more points

Not regularly, but EC had 80+ that time, it was awesome. Tilt had 53 and 55 rated players last year. PBR has had 50+. We aren't that far off.

The points system is imperfect sure, but for some it is an interesting benchmark. Obviously it is when everyone gets together that the real comparisons can be drawn.

It's all good fun in any case mate. End of a good year for Uk pinball.

Thanks, Simon, and also for the tips on Freefall. Was good chatting with you. We’re the founding members of the One ball on Ali haters club. 😂

Whilst I would rather have had a 3 ball game, I do think there’s peculiar brutal perfection in the form of a classic one ball playoff after a day and a half of consistency being key. A proper kick in the nuts to lose this way, though.

Fran, you were very unlucky not to make the finals. Your play has improved massively in the short time you have been playing the competitive scene, and you should be very proud. You are going about things in exactly the right way and it won't be long before you make a final. Having the variety of games at PBR will also help hugely, as they have such a large selection from different eras, which all require different ways to play. Good luck 👍

Thanks, Andy. Really appreciate the positive message. Looking forward to the next comp in Feb and league in the meanwhile.

I really need to try and finish higher up in these sorts of comps I bet 5th from bottom did zero help for my overall standings. Oh well onto the next one
