Hi all, I'd appreciate some advice re a Paypal purchase of a pinball item from overseas.

The seller (good feedback on European pinball site) has sent me an email for me to send funds to but this didn't originate from the 'request funds' section of Paypal. I understand I can send the money and then indicate that it's for goods and services but do I get any protection if the payment request is not made from Paypal?

Thanks
Martin

When you pay with PayPal. It’s super important that it’s listed as an item and has the full address of both you and the seller.

As above. There’s no buyer protection for gift (friends and family) payments. I’d expect to get an invoice to pay via PayPal if someone was doing it properly.

Understand the bit about PayPal Gift but you can also select the option that it's for goods and services. Presume that you have PayPal protection if you do it this way?

Good rule of thumb..

Paypal & tracked shipping.
Cash & collection.

Any other combination of the above is extremely dangerous, including paypal and collection if you're the seller, as the other party can claim non-delivery and get fully refunded.

Overseas you roll your dice unless the seller is known.

I paid in full for my predator pinball by PayPal and we all know how that bloody turned out :(

That is awful. But sadly it is not an isolated case. My pal paid for a custom made guitar that he kept getting excuses off the builder. He lost £4000.
Credit card option on paypal is the best (like I said earlier).
If PayPal wont do nothing about it - your card company will!

DO NOT EVER trust PauPus for anything more than a sale/purchase of a trinket for 10 bucks! You will lose one day. PayPus protects THEMSELVES not the buyer and not the seller.

It really isn't worth the agro - find another way to pay or receive money. An international bank transfer only costs $20 and is 99.99% safe for both parties without involving a 'leach'.

PayPus tried to steal over $3,000AUD from me one time and I have had to take them to the Australian Banking Ombudsman four times now and won every time. It's just too much bother to fight all the time not to mention them 'holding' the money for months with no valid reason and zero options for you to complain or correct the situation.

If you absolutely must use PayPus please do it paying with a credit card (not a debit card) and DON'T link your bank account to PayPus. The credit card company will at least be helpful should you have an issue don't rely on PayPus to do anything except try to steal your money.

Don't believe me? Do yourself a HUGE favour and Google "paypal kept my money" or any similar thing and you might be shocked at how widespread and common this is.

PayPal did nothing Phil , it was over there time and because I paid with my debit card I wasn’t protected, if I had paid with my CC via PayPal might have been a different story :(
