I would like to start a thread for people who have machines they would be prepared to loan out or need temporary homes for. Obviously trust and reputation will play the part here but the community seems to be built on friendship and everyone knowing everyone else.

If this was arranged all in a thread here then it would also be easy to keep a track of...

I am just throwing this open and am prepared to be shot down with flames if it's a bad idea.

I will start it off :-

I have a Xenon and a TriZone that are available for loan, neither need anything doing unless you really want to, they are in Birmingham and available immediately. Loan period up to 6 months or longer depending on circumstances of either myself or the Borrower.

I would very much take a loan in. People know me and that I look after my machines and additionally, I have room next to my 5. :) They will be loved, polished and generally drooled over. Of which drool will not be on machines. Hence my avatar...

Well there we go. Obviously transport would have to be worked out, Martin or if you wanted one of mine then you could :)

God ------- i wish my lottery numbers would come.... in the right order and on he same ticket - but i'll pinsit:clap:

I hope your

I can understand that everyone will want the very latest machines but show a little love for the older machines xxx

Excellent idea Courtney.
I need to move games out or I would have been all over your Xenon like a rash. :(

I'd be up for baby sitting a couple for anyone in a few months time :)

Interesting.....my Fireball could do with a home for a while and maybe tinkering with with to get the 10 point bell working plus a few other lamps and stuff. It currently exists in about 5 separate parts spread between my house and my Dads

I like the idea.
I have a lw3 bought off this forum which is currently sitting in the garage as it is waiting for the cave to be completed. I can't see the cave being finished for another 6 months at least so i guess the lw3 would make a good candidate for a loan.
I am in Derby.

*BASIC RULES*

These are the rules I have quickly come up with and an very open to change these as requested.

  1. Keeping the machine in good clean order is the responsibility of the borrower.
  2. Minor faults are the responsibility of the borrower.
  3. Accidental Damage is the responsibility of the borrower
  4. The individual terms of each machine can be worked out between the lender and the borrower
  5. Natural wear and tear and failures, parts should be covered by the lender but could be fitted by the borrower.
  6. Loan machines that are loaned for the purpose of restoration works - all parts will be paid for by the lender.
  7. it is suggested that a photographic record is kept of the general condition of the machine at the point it is collected by the borrower to alleviate disputes later.
  8. The main reason for this is so we can have a lot of fun playing machines we either couldn't afford to buy or to help out another member who doesn't have the space. Please respect others property accordingly... These are *NOT* cheap toys.
  9. In the case of theft or serious damage not caused by natural wear and tear then all costs and repairs will be covered by the borrower.
  10. If you are not a technical person and something goes wrong, no worries there is going to be someone local to you that will only be too glad to help you for a good mug of coffee and a sandwich, especially if the person you loaned the machine from isn't local.
  11. Transport is the responsibility of the borrower unless otherwise arranged. Just be reasonable, offer fuel money if you are having one delivered. Use a courier if needed, there are a few that specialise in Pinballs.

I too am going to be babysitting a machine, it's a great idea! I will ask the lender's permission first before filling in here.
Cheers

I like the idea as well, I can certainly see rotating my games around as I only keep 3 at a time and enjoy changing them up. This could be a much more wallet-friendly way of doing that!

Perhaps worth stickying this thread @Paul ?

Adding Location to the loan offer would be useful for those who want to move the machine themselves to keep loan costs down.

Good job courtney, maybe move the list to the first post?

Maybe time to consider a few points like maintenance, for instance I would say if you are borrowing a pin you take on the responsibility for minor maintenance, but what happens if a board or DMD fails? That would fall to the owner I would guess, others may disagree. I'm not sugesting these things become rules, every case would be different, but what is general babysitting etiquette?

Yes, I would like everyone involved to please list me what their rules are. Mine might be different to others... So I could set up maybe a folder in the members area with loan machines and a rules.txt file for the conditions of borrowing it?

Having temporarily swapped machines previously... Mine was returned to me with a few fairly serious issues... I was able to resolve them (small amount of time/money involved) but others here might not be so fortunate, particularly if it's claimed it was fully working when it left them (therefore not responsible for any repair bill). It's something to bear in mind.
