Does anyone have any idea where i might be able to get Kiss LE code v1.28 ...it's not on Sterns website, i'm not even sure if you can downgrade the code but need to try.

Thanks for any help or advice.

hope you are not playing those machines of yours ? 🤣

I’d say email stern, they would probably tell you how to downgrade as well. Stern reopened the other day so should respond to emails, might have a backlog though.

whats the problem with the machine not starting And are you sure you put the le version of the code on previously ?

I'm sure I read Stern don't publish the older versions but they do keep them on the server so you just change the filename in the path to the version you want. I've tried that for the version you want but it didn't work, probably because it's quite an old version and most likely now removed.

You know what Ian, they have been sitting collecting dust for the longest time, think I’ve played Iron Maiden about 4 times since I got it 😂

Last night I finally decided to update the code on the Kiss, it was sitting at v1.28 ..everything seemed to go fine and when I restarted I got the dreaded message ‘This machine will not play in your country’ 😭because as you know it’s a US game, why didn’t I just leave it, the joys of buying from abroad.

So I was talking to the guy who designed the mod board and he told me to try and downgrade the code but I don’t have the older code 😕he also went on to say that Stern had made his boards obsolete with the code update and hasn’t had time to work on it, so now I have an expensive paperweight 😂

I will try what Marvello suggested, thanks for the replies.

Think there are other ‘mods’ to get around the location lockdown on sterns

think a few people on here even supply them, don’t know who they are myself but then I don’t have any foreign pins (from stern anyhow)

Could you not buy a 220v > 110v mains converter instead of using the hack/bodge/board you mention?

I have never seen a hacked spike system but this does happen on Sam system s after a update for the first time have you tried turning it back on more than once
I doubt the backwards update would make any difference anyway and stern will probably have no interest
You might be better just buying a new cpu I know they are about £600 but you will never have the problem again and the latest code on that game makes such a big difference

Thanks Ian

At least it looks nice,

Thanks for the reply.

It's not a voltage problem as the power is auto switching, its to do with 50/60hz and that's what the board does.

I didn't think a new CPU would be an option because once you give the serial it would be recognized as a US game, but it's something i would be willing to do if all else fails, better to loose £600 than £7000 - £8000 :)

The Metallica i have is a US game too, i remember when i updated the code on that, the message 'can't play in your country appeared but then cleared on the next power recycle

You are probably right, Stern probably wouldn't even answer me, never again.

Hopefully they reply, but if not i will just put some nice shiny lights round it and use it to store junk :D

Sorry, yes I meant one that also changes the mains frequency as well as the voltage. I have no idea if they’re affordable. Chris B’s suggestion seems most pragmatic, but £600 is still a bit of bugger.

EDIT - i didn’t realise Kiss was a spike game, sorry

I don't even know how i would be able to get a UK CPU , i was told before that you have to provide the serial for your game and the fact that it's a US game would mean it's a non starter but hopefully someone can tell me something different, £600 makes me cry but like i said better than £7000 - £8000 wasted.

Thanks Chris, just checked that out, it may be my only option.

I appreciate your help.

Not cheep but if it’s a keeper then a good buy in my books no more having to worry about it not working you can always sell your old one on e bay .com

It's a great game and a keeper for me so like you say a good buy for no more hassle, i never even thought of selling the old CPU on Ebay.com so that's a definite bonus and will soften the blow if it sells.

Great advice, many thanks Chris.

thats their website if it gives you more confidence, they are european distro for stern.
id give it a few days in case someone chirps up with info on the region hack board though

Thanks Ian, had a look at that, i noticed they are the same KMS, europe distribution for Stern but i couldn't find the Spike boards on that site or maybe they will be added later.

I will give it a few days like you suggest for any other possible solutions, i have asked the guy i bought it from if he could suggest anything and the Stern agent i bought my Metallica oFf in the US.

Fingers crossed :)

Doh!! 😂

Thanks Ian, need new specs

I see two different boards, one enhanced audio and one says mid rev B??

Wonder what the difference is

Well the Kiss Le has life once again, it now has v1.30 code thanks to Replay on this forum, he very kindly helped me out.

I am surprised it worked but am very happy it is no longer a paper weight, I would love to get the newest code but this might not be an option unless I change the Spike board, guess I will just have to content myself with what I have got and be thankful that it lives again.

Thanks to all who took the time to reply 😊

Have you tried the wayback machine website?

If you know when it was released you can go back to the stern pinball code website on that date and hopefully you will still be able to download it...

Good man and thumbs up to Replay.

so can you just apply an older version without any hassle ? I thought it did a version check

It seems like it does not check which is a good thing for me, i have been talking to the guy who designed the mod board and i think he has a fix which will allow me to use the latest code on the Kiss and also will fix any problems with Spike 2, requires a little soldering which i am no expert at but am curious enough to give it a shot, will let you know how i get on :)

Thanks for the reply.

I tried that link but couldn't seem to find anything unless i used it wrong.

Okay - I actually know the answer to this for sure.

The board is pretty well bricked now. Put it on Pinside and someone in the USA will buy it,

You can buy the European board but for $750 from Norway They basically do a 50hz and 60hz cpu board.

Stern distros in the USA will sell them you.

Here is a SPIKE II Board - not a SPIKE I

If you contact them they may get one for you,
