Next on the move: No Fear. A Williams game from 1995
I bought this game about a year ago from another forum member for £1850. It was sold as fully working, having just been serviced.
When it got to me, there was a number of things which I had to address:
- the support bracket for the under playfield kick out on the right hand side was missing. The coil being attached to the upstand which normally receives the bracket with cable ties. I sourced the correct bracket from Germany and installed it. With the cable ties, the ball would often get trapped in the trough and another ball would come on top which meant that the game had to be switched off and the balls manually released. With the proper bracket, the ball gets ejected every time. So that is fixed nicely.
- the game was still running on an old ROM, v 0.7 I think it was. I sourced the latest ROM v 2.3 from Paul on this forum and installed it.
- one of the long posts that supports the jumping ramp was missing, I sourced a post and installed it. The ramp used to feel shaky. It is now nice and solid.
- only one of the three GI rows in the backbox was working. I traced that to a burnt connector, which i sourced a replacement for. This fixed the problem, temporarily only, as I noticed recently that one row is out again and the connector showing signs of heat again. The simplest way to fix this would be to LED the backbox, which I haven't done.
- talking about LEDs, I always thought the game was a bit dark so I have sourced and fitted LEDs to the playfield inserts. And it is much nicer now.
- I have also sourced instruction cards too
About the game itself, the cabinet is faded, as most are and you will see that on the photos. The playfield is very good in my view. No sign of wear that i could spot. No obvious hack on the boards (but i have had no need to inspect them in details - the game has run flawlessly). There is no fault on start up. The DMD is nice and strong without warming up time (please note that the photo show the pin2DMD display that used to be in it - i have replaced it with the standard DMD that came with it so it is back to orange).
There is something a little odd with the side rails, not quite put my finger on what it is. But the playfield glass feels slightly too small with one side being nearly out of the rail. I originally thought it might be the glass so I replaced it with another one (sourced free of charge from another forum number, thank you!) but it shows exactly the same outcome. I'll try to show this on pictures but it might not come out OK. When installed the glass is secure, it just feels a little different from other games I have had.
And I think that's about it. I am based in Etwall, a little village near Derby.
The price is firm at £1850 (still) which i think is fair for a fully working NF. More than happy for anyone to come and have a look and play.
Thanks for looking.
