Hi Guys,

Thinking of having a go doing my own plating and was wondering if anyone had tried it and what the results came out like ?

Cheers Kev

I think there was a thread on this on the pennymachines.co.uk. forum you could try searching that Kev. I may be wrong though

There was a place in Birmingham I used to get my stuff done - Nickel plating i think cost around £25 for everything i could possibly think of on a machine. It's not expensive.

Now, Chrome plating, that IS expensive!!

You can get a very similar finish using some special nickel finishes and combinations of plating

You'd be best off trying to find someone local Kev so you can drop parts into them easily. I'm going to be looking for a platers in Nottingham soonish as I want to start doing this for a couple of upcoming projects :)

Ah, bugger :( I've had a quick look around here and there seems to be a couple of places in Nottingham and another couple in Derby who offer Nickel plating but I haven't contacted them to get an idea of costs.

Edit: Looks like the closest place to you is in Prudhoe.

Yup - strip everything off and remove all Sticky label stuff..... So basically supply the bare metal (Doesn't need to be cleaned tho since the metalwork is firstly Stripped and then re-plated).

I've used this place: http://www.broadwaybrass.co.uk/
I just wrap up my bits, send them in F.A.O. a guy called Raj with a note inside with my name and address and the phrase "please make these shiny". Then about a month later he gets in touch, you PayPal some cash and the bits are delivered.

That's about 5 mins away from my office - I'll have to pop in and see what they can do!!! :)
