Hi guys,

I was pointed to this forum so i thought i would join up and post afew pics of the Williams Big Guns i bought not that long ago.

I bought it from an auction un seen. ive fixed quite a few faults on it and its not far from fully working.

i replaced all these stickers as half were missing

This GI connector was very bably burnt up and most of the lamps were not working. I replaced the connector and pin header and then started working my wat round the machien replacing heaps of dead bulbs

A cheeky fuse botch i found - now replaced with the correct rating fuses

i machine polished the play field with Novus 2 and replaced all the red star posts, rubbers, one of the troll drop tarkets had parts missing too.

The ball in the bagatell was almost disintigrated so i managed to get that repalced and also cleaned that bit of the machine up.

My player 3 display doesnt work at all

The glass nipple on the back of it is broken so im guessing its completely dead

Im trying to find a replacement part to fix this if anyone has any ideas. ive searched online but i can only find the whole replacement boards which are expensive and since i only have one display that need fixed i was hoping to just replace the faulty screen.

I have a few arcade machine also a Gorf, Tempest, Mortal Kombat 2, Sega NAC and Konami GTI Club.

Can you explain that for me please im not sure what you mean. I found an app send used that to set the level of the play field. Ive bought new heavy duty leg levers and rubber pads to go under them as my floor is very uneven. I was thinking about buying 2 chrome front legs for it also.

I was just being silly because all your photos show the machine on its side.

Looks like you are doing a good job in getting the machine up and fully working again.

I doubt that the fuse is the cause of the burnt up GI connectors - burnt connectors are pretty common as they get dirty, higher resistance leads to more heat, they get burnt etc. Changing the connectors and cleaning any that are not burnt yet (even just unplugging and replugging the connectors a few times can give them a short term clean) should see you right unless there is a different underlying fault I would have thought.

Welcome, great looking pin and nice work.

Also loving the Gorf, had to part with mine years ago due to divorce!

You are "lucky" that it is a 7 digit numeric panel that failed, these are reasonably common. Someone on here will have one, or they come up on eBay. Folk replace them with Leds so you should get an original without too much trouble.

The 7 digit alphanumeric panels are a nightmare to find.

Hello, Bean,

Going by the nearby label, the fuses pictured are for the two (+/- 100v) power rails for the display envelopes, not the general illumination. System 11 games have four separate g/I circuits, with a block of 4 of those fuse holders (or 4 fuses on an additional circuit board in the later ones)

You say not too much trouble but i have looked all over for new ones and no one seems to stock them. if anyone has any old ones which still work that were swapped out for LED versions please get in touch.

Im just looking to try and sort out the 3 last switch errors im getting for 17,18,19 which are the 3 troll drop tarkets on the left side of the machine. Ive just removed the board but cant see anything obvious so ive reflowed all the joints. I guess i could swap the board from the three on the other side and see if that gets them going to rule out anything else.

Im also struggeling with the ball saver not locking down, i think im going to repalce the plastic cam piece and see if that helps, ive been messing about with the springs on it but not having much luck.
 
I am not too familiar with that game but if you have 3 optos not working on the drop targets I would check if you have 12v at the board

The weird side art its had applied at some point

Its almost fully working except for it only plays one audio channel, it needs 2 small bulbs in the joystick and some of the transistors replaced on the rank board when i can find them to get the lights working for the ranks.

Nice, mine was converted to Terra Cresta! took me many months to find all the bits it needed and I had to make a wiring loom for it. Never had it long! it was in nice condition, went for £800 on eBay!
 
Try posting a wanted advert on this forum.

I don't know whether the pin order on the Williams System 11 games (Big Guns) is the same as on the Bally SS and Williams games from the late 70s and early 80s. But someone on here will know

I have previously cut the legs on both my dead unit and donor unit. I then soldered the two sets of legs to finalise the repair. Desoldering all those pins successfully can be tricky, as some brands have paper thin "foil" type legs

Mine had been hacked a bit too with another harness on it. i had to re pin the entire loom, rebuild the power supply board, monitor chassis repair, rgb board repair all sorts. it was great to get it working though. at first i had it running on a small crt tv on the floor using part of a super gun until i got the chassis boards repaired.

Cheers DRD i have put up a wanted post, hopefully i get lucky. im not bad with a soldering iron/ de solder braid/ solder sucker so i would certainly give the repair a go, without the P3 screen ive found navigating the diagnostics menu a bit of a struggle as you dont know exactly where you are. From what ive found from searching the 7 digit display is used on numerous pins and not just Williams machines.
