New Cars Will Ruin Folk Unless They are Loaded

There’s a plug and play factory finish like kit that does all the custom parts to fit and it’s the BAM engine it needs really, it’s cheaper to mod that one to get the most power apparently. Here’s a clip of one and the engine had issues, think the head gasket was gone and was still pretty impressive. One time the hard top blew off from the cabin pressure😂

Ok, that makes sense to hold on for the BAM. The air intake was switched over and whilst the block was same technically, the little differences will increase the fabrication time.
EBay shows lumps with ECU’s for £750-850. Not too bad for a BHP to ££ modifying ratio. Folks spend more than that on heavier and larger rolling radius wheels that do nothing for handling or performance.

At maybe 20 I, had a 1983 ? Audi 80 and a previous owner had replaced the rear doors. This killed the electric windows

So I went to a scrapyard and removed the rear motors from a car that had another perched on its roof

The problem was that in removing the door cards to reach the motors I had effectively locked myself in said car. The front doors were too close to neighbouring vehicles to escape that way. I was then on my back kicking the **** out of the rear window until it eventually shattered

I value these things too, the joy of fixing issues by the road and the sense you were part of your own destiny. After work tonight, I will be sitting in the rain changing more ABS sensors on a 10 year old Golf. Not because I can’t afford a garage to do it, but because I can do it quicker and for less stress.

Other people value getting in and just driving.

As for all the old cars, they get broken down and the parts get moved on to fix the broken down cars. Though the days of doing a scrapyard hunt yourself is now over. That was another adventure future kids won’t have. Climbing a car stack to get to the metro at the top.

Yup new cars are near impossible to repair by yourself. Every part is custom / hard to get to, needs special tools to remove and probably has a cpu in it and needs to be coded to work once installed. They are just complex things these days and the dealers want to be the ones fixing them as I don’t think they make much profit selling them. They make money off the finance / maintenance.

Iv only ever opened my bonnet to put windscreen washer fluid in.

That sounds terrifying, I hope you can laugh now.
Feeling stuck, upside down with my head next to the throttle peddles and my mate pushing the driver seat forward for a laugh is my nightmare story. I discount the times I got stuck under the bonnet/hood.

I recall there was a car you couldnt open the bonnet at all. An Audi perhaps. There was a flap somewhat like a petrol filler where you could check fluid levels and that was it.
I dislike this more than somewhat.
Infact im thinking of getting rid of the MX5 in favour of an S2000. (Though I did consider a mk3 MX5 - I liked the last one I had - just felt a little lame in the performance department.. A turbo would help with that :) )

Never pay anything upfront and always do PCH to keep the payments as low as possible. (Always select 5k annual mileage and pay for any extra at the end, as it's only £100 per extra 1000miles, which is nothing compared to the increase in monthly payments if you chose 10k.

Always pay for the full maintenance pack, extra £20p/m, and then I get all the luxury and toys of a new car (turn off all those daft beeps and boops), without the worry cost of ever owning as its a) under warranty, and b) not my car.
How much does that cost you in total per year?

OMG, the scrap yards. In cars rocking on top of others getting parts, was a massive one in Park Royal London called Alfa Autos I think back in the 80’s I loved going to that place. They found a high profile boxing promotors brand new Rolls Royce there😂

I miss the scrap yards 🙁

Possibly the Audi A2.

You can open it for maintenance, just have to unbolt and remove it.

True story on scrap yards.

There was a one near me in Doncaster. [12] years ago the business model was that you ordered the part online and then they took it off the vehicle on demand. There are much more sophisticated operations now that totally strip them down, only target saleable items, barcode, list on eBay etc within hours

My pal who is a small time used car dealer was in Donny picking up a part. At the next till someone was collecting a rear light cluster they had ordered. The purchaser began arguing over price, trying to chip the seller. The seller said "I've removed it specially for you, you agreed beforehand that the price was X. The buyer retorted "Well it's off the car now and I'll only pay you Y". So the seller pulled a baseball bat from behind the counter, smashed said light cluster in full view of all the customers and said "Now, you can have it for Y"

So, Corsa is 220 pm all in for a top spec Ultimate 1.4 turbo.
Qashqai is 339 pm, again top spec, petrol.

I don't pay road tax as there are not my car. And that includes the servicing, breakdown and tires, etc.

But what if we want to clip the apex after pulling an all nighter

Bloke at work is convinced his Mercs sleepy warning system saved him from having a crash after a ferry got delayed and he ended up driving after not sleeping for 36 hours, but it can't have been too intrusive as he had no idea the car had that feature.

When I was a young rapscallion, i genuinely believed that you could take what you liked from a scrapyard. They were scrapped right? I used to help myself to all manner of parts for my mates Mk3 Escort. I remember brazenly walking out with a parcel shelf once. Never paid for a thing 😆.
I now realise that if the nice sales assistant from the yard had of caught me, he’d of ripped my arms off and beat me with the soggy ends.

When we were teenagers my mates house backed onto the police impound yard, had a few night-time trips out getting spares (we only took bits from cars that were clearly abandoned, or damaged beyond repair)

I know one that still stacks them 3 or 4 high and you take the parts off yourself. I went there about a year ago and got the usual 1980s phrase “there’s one down the back on the right - go take a look”. I was expecting full counter service. Maybe they should be selling it as a tourist attraction.

I can only do ground floor these days and if it’s underneath I need a ramp😂
Plus all the bolts snap it seems, don’t remember them shearing off back in the day like they do these days.

Was always good putting a cigarette lighter from the dash in your pocket, always missing when I bought a car.
