New Arduino based pinball display for custom projects

I started a new kickstarter project today for a full sized 16x2 alphanumeric display arduino shield that you can add to your custom projects (pinball or other arcade inspired coolness). An open source library for controlling it will also be released as part of a successful campaign. It has serial in for connecting up to other systems and is i2c based

Top idea... but...Where is the comma on the display?

The only reason I say this was due to me having exactly the same idea last year but gave up when I couldn't find the correct style 16 segments with both dot and comma at a non stupid price.

Thanks for the message. One of the key considerations for this project is that all the parts fitting onto the shield are cost effective off the shelf items, as I am wanting the product to appeal to a wider hacker and modder audience, not just pinball projects. I see this board as great in any custom project where you want a large display. I am providing a selection of different reward price options for the product including just the blank board, so that there is as much flexibility as possible. The dot provides the separator for numerical display strings and looks good i think. Text is where it truly shines

The library will also add out of the box methods for text animations, scrolling effects etc.

Silly q 2... are you stuck with the font map or can you light any segments you choose at anytime?

The board has the capability to drive any segment you like, via the library. You are not limited to the standard character set. The library development is something that backers will have the opportunity to discuss and vote on how it is expanded and developed.
