Not expecting anything from anywhere! Got a ticket in door from RM saying unable to deliver due to under paid postage, they want £8.50 paid online to get it delivered! Annoying as I don't know what it is from who?

Ooooh, mystery package. I'd have to pay to find out otherwise it would bug me wondering what it was. You definitely haven't forgotten something you've ordered in the past, maybe from America? Can they tell you where it was posted from?

Yes, was just going to say the same possibly a scam trying to catch people out, lots of them going a out for a while, usually it's texts though.

Do you have to go to the proper royal mail website to pay?

Also can you go to the local parcel office to see it first and pay there?

I agree - possible scam. I'd take that ticket to my local sorting office which is easy (easy where I live anyway)

Yes it's legit from RM, not even sure it's a parcel just says item? But £8.50? the fees seem to be £2.50 or £3.50. I might go to the sorting office to see if they will let me eyeball it before paying

They do let you eyeball it and at our office and say you can decline if you wish to get returned to the sender.
The wife’s dad refused to come to our wedding due to being divorced from her mum and did not want to have to look at her.
He was the ultimate definition of BATman (bitter and twisted)
Anyhoo he sent our wedding present via RM without a stamp so I had to pay to collect it thinking it was a huge check! It was a £10 note minus the £3 I had to pay 😂

I hope you sent him a thank-you letter in return. Minus a stamp.

Just pay the £8.50. Has to be better than going to the post office (however local) and wasting your time standing around.
Agreed, I used to dread going to my local depot. No matter if you went 1st thing in the morning, last thing at night or any time in between there were queues of ****ed off people out the door. I actually felt sorry for the staff on the desk. Working from home and Amazon Prime have meant I haven't had to go there for a few years now thank God.

Ok the mystery is revealed! I ordered engine oil 3 weeks ago, it was sent tracked via Hermes, after 2 weeks I contacted seller as it never arrived, they came back saying Hermes had lost it! They instantly refunded me, hey presto RM had it! WTF! How did they get it I have no idea? So I got £33 worth of oil for £8.50, but have already ordered it again via another seller, now trying to cancel that.

Strangely enough I ordered engine oil a couple of weeks ago to be delivered by Hermes. Three 4L containers so 12L in total. Got a message from Hermes that it had been "damaged beyond repair in transit" so they would not be able to deliver and I should contact the seller. The seller refunded immediately and seemed used to doing so. I can only imagine the oily mess that was made when some careless handler lobbed 15kg of oil across the room/into the back of a van etc. as would seem to be usual handling protocol. I don;t expect he will do the same any time soon. Whilst I would welcome free oil I'm kind of hoping they will not now try to deliver the oily mess to me.

Probably had a fragile sticker on it, that's a red rag to a bull for some delivery drivers!
