Experienced matchplay set up this week end with a tablet and several large screens. All connected. Matchplay in use. Using win over score for result.

Really enjoyed it and would like a similar set up myself. Just 1 large screen and a tablet to control. I have a spare iPad or fire 10 to choose to use, might be easier if it was the fire as its the kids old one

How do I connect them , just mirror displays ? would like to maybe show video at same time / other displays on the big screen could be an option.,

End of year sale coming up so would like to get anything I need then

Any advice greatly received

The tablets aren't really controlling anything, they are just interfacing with the matchplay website which does all of the work for you, the displays will be displaying a webpage which matchplay provides for big displays, it's all hosted on matchplay. There's no mirroring from devices.

If you want a TV/display in your games room to display matchplay you can get a raspberry pi and program it to display one website when it boots (there's plenty of easy to follow guides and a Pi can cost less than £100 depending on what specs it is)
The little TV in our pinroom is set to display our iScored page which tracks high scores on the games, but then I remotely alter the Pi to show matchplay when we have a comp (If you don't know what iscored is, this is our page that represents our game room which players can add scores to using their phones https://www.iscored.info/DaveTheTrain )

You could also just hook up a laptop or PC to the tv using HDMI and use that to display the matchplay page.

It really depends on what you'll use it for day by day, you won't be running a matchplay comp 24hours a day 365, but may use it to display fun things like iscored.

Matchplay is free to sign up and play with. You'll only hit a pay wall if you want to run certain formats or amounts of players so it's worth playing with to see what you can do and how you'll use it. Always happy to advise or help :)

Thanks David for that info, i do have a RPI4 i’m not using atm. I will purchase a big screen in the NY sale and use one of the tablets here for input . That way i can mount it local for access
I am not very good with computer set up regarisng the Pi though i’m afraid, do you know of a link you could suggest that is idiot proof to follow ?

With this system i guess i don’t need to bother with Scorbit ?
Can players use the tablet instead of phones to update the the system ?

I followed this guide.
You'll need a PC/laptop to set the pi up and access it if you need to change the website your pi is showing.
I've never used a Pi till this one so that guide was my first experience so I think you'll be ok.

Had it working a year now with no issues, if we have a comp I'll log onto the Pi via my PC and edit the URL to be the Matchplay page then edit it back after.

You could try set your pi up now plugged into a TV or monitor and a random webpage. I had a spare tv on my floor while following the guide so I knew i had it working before i plugged it into the wall mounted TV

I don't have scorbit, seemed too expensive when you've got lots of games, I guess you can use one or the other.
With iscored players can visit the website and add their scores on their phones or use a tablet. (Or you can put QR codes on the games to make it even easier) All you do is tap the name of the game, then put your score in (you can set it to require a photo of needed). iscored costs but it's a one time small charge and plenty of customisation and updates with new features every few weeks.

Edit: I see the guide doesn't say about how to initially set up a pi, but there's a link early on that takes you to a guide for that first step

Hi David,

Got round to powering up the Pi, then noticed it uses mini HDMI , before I start buying cables I also have a spare Fire Stick. If all im needing is a web browser to show on the screen, Im guessing I need it to be pre programmed for the matchplay browser ? Would that be the same browser ill be logged into on the tablet?

I've never had or used a fire stick but if it can display webpages you're halfway there. The main thing I like about the pi is it's set up to boot straight into the iscored or Matchplay site, full screen. It depends what you're hoping to achieve, it's probably not a big fuss to boot it up and go to the website manually switch to full screen and leave it running .

I could have done that with the pi, but I didn't have a spare wireless keyboard and mouse to leave plugged in, if I had I could have hid the kb and mouse under a pin and used them to open the webpage when needed.
But the kiosk mode just works, TV turns on, pi boots. Job done 😄

Out of interest what are you intending to use it for day to day? I don't think Matchplay is suited for a long tournament that runs for weeks and weeks.

It was my birthday on the 28th and we had around 15 friends over, so I switched iscored to a comp mode which you can enable and disable at will and it'll only use scores added during that event. I set it to use people's top 6 scores for the main standings.
This is what the TV was showing (I re-enabled the birthday comp for a few days so people can see)

Good for a casual meet up with a bit of fun competition going on. Not as serious as using Matchplay but I think this is what most people would choose for their games room on a day to day basis.

Im just learning what's what atm. I have a few people over in a couple weeks nd wanted to make the evening have a little more of a theme , I played matchplay at Niels the other week where it was player against player and not about points, I met and chatted to a lot of wouldn't have prior. It added to the fun alot. Also for fam and friends it will be fun

I can watch twitch or have a game playing otherwise. Main idea is to get a camera above TNA and show that , maybe split screen with scores on 1 side

Are you saying most people have iscored or use matchplay. ?

I'm saying they're for different things. I don't know of many people using iscored, it seems unknown.
If you want to keep track of you and your friends high scores when they visit your games room it's great, especially as most people won't get onto the high score tables on your machines, it gives them an idea of how good their score is and something to beat.
It also has an option of running a high score comp, but not as structured as doing a proper comp using Matchplay.

Matchplay is more for serious tournaments that last last a few hours go a couple days.

When I have friends over iscored is on the tv and they enjoy submitting their scores. If we have a proper head to head comp I'll set up Matchplay and change the URL on the pi to show that for the day.

You know that Yuen lives near me David..... You should see the scores he left just goofing around o_O

Ok, ive managed to do it. Ive used https://www.ablesign.tv/ which was free and just shows any webpage I want, I set the refresh time and leave it at that. Just operate the site from phone, iPad or Mac

I shall let you know how it goes.

Thanks for your help

Ok, that was a fail. Had it all set up with the big screen working. tried double round robin. It activated all rounds, didn't assign any arenas and would only show the 5th round on the big screen no matter what.

I think I need to see this in person set up, before my next attempt

That's how Matchplay does round robins if you pick the actual round robin format. We never use it because I hate how it creates all the rounds at once.

The better way is to use max Matchplay and setting the number of games to one less than the player number then it'll do a round robin. Or double the game amount for double round robin. It'll only show the games as you create them making it much easier to manage.

Matchplay has a test feature where you can run fake tournaments to try things out. Just clone your existing comp and try a max Matchplay
