I've got The Hobbit LE coming next year and think that a LOTR LE sitting next to it would be sweet!

I know of one for sale, NIB supposedly, considering new STERN games are going for 7K what would be a reasonable price of a LOTR LE?

Well, who know but they were £5300 from memory. LOTR LE is a strange one as I prefer the regular due to artwork and for some reason no figures on the LE??

I think Marc (Roger Airplane) bought three LOTR, One LE NIB and one LE HUO and a regular one.
Have a chat with him he won't bite. You should be able to come to a deal.

Heard lots of people mentioning his higher prices but he was a dream to deal with in my experience and I would use him again if the deal was good.
Honest chap IMO

I like the idea of a LOTR one of these days, but hate all mention of LEs and Pro and Premium and all that shi_te, what's the deal with all the versions of LOTR?

When I do get one, it'll be staying for a decent period rather than a brief visit, always liked the very thing that others hate about it: long ball times. I thought it was still a £2.5 - £3K title though (the normal one). Also interested in what fancy mods people put on it?

LOTR LE was back in the days when the LE just meant some bling rather than a completely different game. Think it might have been the first Stern foray into LEs (?)

From ipdb

Here are the factory changes that differentiate the LE version from the original version:

• The backglass is real glass (not a translite) with a mirrored gold effect.
• Extra clearcoats on playfield.
• 'Armies of Middle Earth' plastic figures were not used. Therefore, no mounting holes exist in the playfield plastics for them.
Playfield is signed by Gary Stern and George Gomez.
• "Gold" trim. The lockdown bar, legs, hinges, and side rails are plated and polished. Gold trim around the backbox.
• Game has the option to add a Shaker Motor.
• Leg bolts and hinge bolts are brass plated.
• The speaker panel has a "500 Game Limited Edition" plate and gold painted grills.
• Certificate of Authenticity signed by Gary Stern.

This game has the option to add a Shaker Motor which had not been the case for the original LOTR game. Lonnie Ropp confirmed to us that he added the Shaker Code to the original Code and it had been 'secured' with a new PAL chip version.

Sounds worse than the original if it doesn't actually have a shaker but just the option to add one. No thanks Gary Stern, I don't want your autograph that much

With a custom PAL chip, you can run the LE code in a standard machine. I will get around to installing my shaker kit one day.....(pinballlife.com for the custom PAL chip)

You do get Gandalfs 'beard c*ck' on the backglass though. And I'm sure you of all people would appreciate that Dan :D

Woah. You're right dude, I love the beard cock. When I get me a LOTR I'm gonna hafta put a sticker on the back glass now or I'll be missing out.

You sure know your pinball triv. Respect to the grizzmeister.

The problem with the NIB LE - is it is an inflated price due to it being NIB. If you are buying it to keep it in NIB then buy it at that price. If you aren't and plan on playing it then buy a HUO LE for far less as the NIB is pointless, you effectively kill 2.5k off your purchase by opening it.

It will be opened and played! Can anyone point me in the direction of an HUO LOTRLE? Trouble is they are keepers and apart from 1 coming up for sale a few months back there aren't that many around!

A NIB Stern LE costs £7Kish, The LOTR is still effectively NIB, the build quality on Sterns older games such as LOTR & SM were far better then than NIB now what with all the cost cutting. Any LOTR LE owners care to come in on this and compare build quality against say TRS, IM,MOPLE,XMLE etc ..

I have seen the LOTR on here for £3400 its a good buy, but I like the bling! (and haven't had a NIB before) sure could buy a gold set of everything but that's another £600 on top. TBH it's only to go next to THBLE when it arrived next year.

Things I have learned today, Stern scrimp on clearcoat but add extra coats to the LE?? (why not add extra coats to them all doh!!) and Gandalf has a beard cock... cool that will do me until tomorrow.

JJP had to give assurances it would coincide with the 3rd film. If its not ready by then Im not sure we would see a 3rd JJP pin.

Bear in mind the factory, board sets, parts vendors and underlying code are all in place now which makes things an awful lot quicker next time round

Only time will tell, hope there is a 3rd JJP pin but tbh the WOZ debacle/fiasco (call it what you like) put me off ordering a Hobbit :)
