LOTR - Ring cannot be destroyed

Hi

I'm having a strange problem with LOTR. Once I have started all the multiballs, I can hit the ring to go into Destroy the Ring mode, make the 4 shots, hit the ring again & get the 'Gollum hanging from Frodo's foot' animation. When I hit the ring again, it doesn't get destroyed, but I do get 5000 points for hitting it. I have gone through it with the glass off & hit the ring numerous times. Any ideas (even how to test any changes without going through the faff of setting all the MBs off etc)?

I've tried setting it to 2 ball destroy, then back to one but that didn't help.

Is the switch at the back working? The one in the metal lane after the ball travels through the ring, as far as I know this is what has to trigger to tell the game you've destroyed the ring as the ball has to travel past it.

There a switch behind the backboard used only for ‘Destroy the ring’ - sounds like this isn’t working or being triggered. In test mode it’s there along with spinner and opto so you should be able to test it easily enough then adjust if needed.

Curses - both switches fire OK in the diagnostics, even with a rolled ball. I did notice that the leaf of the spinner switch wasn't firing the spinner switch as it had become dislodged & over the spinner. I replaced it & went through destroying the ring, saw the message about there being more to do on the way to Valinor, but didn't go crazy as usual and the machine went into ball search mode. I'm going to leave it for today & will try how it plays in real play during the week.

Thanks for the help guys, that's the first time I've had to do any diagnostic stuff on a 21st century machine. I'll let you know how it goes when I manage to destroy the ring with the glass on (it may be a while ;))

I had to adjust that second switch, so that even a fast ball through would trigger it - it took me ages as I, like you, was convinced it was working as it worked in switch test and with a slow roll ball, but in a real game it missed the ball as it travelled through faster.

Aha - that's good info, thanks - I may be a bit busy for serious play this week; I start a new job tomorrow & I've been furloughed/unemployed for 3 months, so may need to do some mental rust removal in the evenings.
