I'm looking to sell (or trade) our Lord the Rings (standard edition) HUO with no skill posts that I bought from Mark9 on this forum in August last year:

https://www.pinballinfo.com/community/threads/lord-of-the-rings-huo-uk-non-skill-post-version-£5500.50346/

It is as pristine as he wrote in the original advert. It's apparently been HUO since NIB from Pinball Heaven with three (now four) owners.

Since purchasing, I've added a colorDMD, Palantir mod, sword mod, ring shooter rod, an engraved ball guide, coin door plaque, shooter gauge plaque, flipper covers, auxillary power source for running lighted mods, a Mad Nat board, balrog topper, and target decals (one of which has fallen off, but I've got a spare). These mods are, with the exception of the colorDMD, Palantir and topper, not possible to remove with ordinary effort - please don’t ask.

It doesn't have skill posts and has been very reliable, except for a replacement plastic on the auto-launcher, which we believe happened due to my small sons pulling the plunger. We've started a shop log (a notebook) where we record all the work we've done on the pin (not much with this one).

I also have a big box of unfitted mods, including the Ring of Fire, Orthanc mod, Gollum runic side armour, Sauron's eye, Col plastics (full set), Cliffy protectors.... All the common mods for LoTR except for the Path of the Dead (I've got a single model that Gonzo kindly shipped me and three other mods in a pack). The total cost of fitted and unfitted mods purchased new is in the region of £1,500, including shipping from the US. The mods are not fitted because we have young children and the pins are in the front room, which means maintenance time is limited.

We are on a waiting list to get a extra-large Pin2DMD and speaker panel from Davey and small gold speaker rings from Col, which - if I sell this - I will need to either include with the deal somehow or sell separately when they arrive.

I am looking for £6k with the unremovable mods, or £6.8k with all the mods (fitted and unfitted). I’m also happy to sell the unfitted mods separately.

We are also interested in trading for (with cash either way):
  • Avengers: Infinity Quest Pro;
  • AFM (Remake or original);
  • TNA;
  • Monster Bash (Remake or original);
  • Medieval Madness (Remake or original);
  • Star Wars Pro;
  • B/W Indiana Jones;
  • Dialed In;
  • Metallica
  • CFTBL
  • White Water (a really nice one)
  • The Addam’s Family
We would prefer to have a pin to trade into the slot, or to borrow temporarily, but are open to a sale.

We're in SE London. You're welcome to visit to play, or to arrange a WhatsApp virtual tour around the pin. We'll obviously use Martin.

[NOTE: Kids' toys and foldable step-up stool not included in the trade ;) Some of the pictures are new as, since I last tried trading/selling this, we’ve added a Balrog topper and a shooter plaque]

That's like a really good example. . . . alas I have nothing to trade.

Sincerely, it’s on at the price it’s on at because, to me, it’s worth close to an average Stern Pro. I’m not so desperate to get it out of the house that I’m willing to take a bath on the mods :)

As always, many things are actually for sale - it’s just all about the price people are willing to pay. If it’s a £4.5k game then it’s not for sale because there’s nothing I think is as good as LoTR that is currently available for less than £4.5k (except Alien Poker, but my husband doesn’t want Alien Poker).

In which case, I don’t sell it. Simples… 🤷‍♂️

I mean, this isn’t a pin that comes up very often (so, I’m told). Most people keep theres and it’s a top 10/11 pin on Pinside. So, I don’t see why the flying flamingo that it’s being valued at dramatically less than a mediocre Stern Pro with about two wireforms on it, worse gameplay, and similar code complexity. Doesn’t make any sense at all to me 🤷‍♂️ I realise it’s not a trade I’m willing to do - having to pay £1,000s extra for the privilege of upgrading to a bit of chipboard with a ramp. So, if that really is what LoTR is worth, then it’s not worth me selling it.

No s**t. I know that if I sell this thing for less than £6k and then buy a Stern Pro, I’m going to feel ripped off. So, take it up with Gary Stern, but don’t expect him to get his round in.

Most people evidently don’t sell theirs either, and this may be why 🤷‍♂️

Sorry for being controversial :oops: I’m (hopefully) nice in person, although a little shy :cool:

To be clear - Wayne and Garth were commenting more on the general it’s for sale/ it’s not for sale / it’s for sale merry go round and …..no offence ….general overthinking madness 😁

Price at what you want - I really don’t care. It’s yours. 👍

No problems. I know the ad’s been up and down like a whore’s drawers :rofl:

The problem is it’s a marginal decision whether we sell or not, and - although I’m the person you see on the forum - there are actually two (adult) pinball players in the house and my husband likes LoTR. So, we’ve been like a two-headed cartoon hydra where the heads are constantly arguing about whether it should go for sale/trade, how much it should go on for, and what we want to trade it for… :cool:

It's not usually the seller that de rails a for sale post but this is confusing as to I don't know if it is really for sale or will it be pulled again or is it trades only for a Alien Poker or a new in box machine or something completely different.
If it is a sale you want how much are you asking ?

Just to confuse matters even further what’s all this with or without skills posts thing?

If I had 5k for a machine, I’d buy it in a heartbeat. Played a lovely one at PinFest in 2019 and have been hoping to get the chance to play another ever since. Absolutely stacked machine in terms of playfield content and undeniably one of the very finest themes a pin game could ever have. You’re lucky to have it. Sure it’ll sell or be traded if that’s what you’re after.

If not, maybe I’ll come calling in the next few years (take me that long to save 5k) to take it off your hands. Plus, gutted we never crossed paths at PinFest, as I’d read many of your posts with interest and was looking forward to putting a face to the username. Oh well, always next year, lol!

Sorry :oops: There were a couple of previous sale/trade posts of the same pin, and it's become a bit of a forum joke now... etc. :oops:

So:
  • It is really for sale;
  • I'm not trading for an Alien Poker. There is a list of possible trades on the advert (although I realise TNA is now an £11k pin so I can't trade for that 😭)!;
  • The sale price is also on the advert.
We are open to trading for one of the pins listed. We are also interested in selling LoTR and buying another pin. Our list of possible trades is actually quite large because I want a NIB/nearly-new A:IQ Prem, but can't afford one right now, so we're looking for a trade we can play until getting an A:IQ. We have had someone potentially offer to lend us a pin on long-term loan until we buy a new pin, as part of a purchase deal. And that's very attractive to us, as otherwise we're going to potentially have a gaping space in our front room for several months.

If we don't manage to finalise any potential purchase/trade offers, we're also interested in a temporary swap/exchange of LoTR as our space/financial situation may change in the future. LoTR is actually a great pin, and we will be sad to see it go - it's just not our joint favourite in a four-pin collection.

Hope that clears things up :)

It’s more to do on whether they are close to selling the 250. Which I hope they do. If they sell out then it’s gives a better chance of another run being made. However it’s looking unlikely..

They should’ve priced it properly this time around then! And our currency should be a bit more valuable relatively too…. Stupid Spooky & stupid pound.

Resume topic.

That's why I went for it, to be honest. I realised that the pricing meant that there was unlikely to be another run. And, if there were currently 10 in the UK, there were going to be 12 (or similar) - so, little hope of picking one up without importing it (or being very fast on the keyboard when one eventually came up).
