hi guys.
my PCB knowledge is crap but can someone have a look at the following thread on a reef forum i use and tell me who this can be reported to with regards to?
i've already told the guy that by taking it apart his warranty will be invalidated but like myself he is more concerned with them being on sale in this state than the cash.

http://www.ultimatereef.net/forums/...or-the-real-quot-quality-quot-you-are-buying-!!!

The product in question is from a major player in the UK aquarium trade and would be running 24 hours a day.
if you don't want to register there by all means reply in this thread and i will pass the information on.

thanks

where would you take something like that with regards to safety etc?
surely that would not pass UK standards to allow it to be sold to the public etc? Hell, you expect to see crap like that abroad in third world countries.

Looks well dodgy to me but surely it must of passed some kind of safety test to be able to sell it in the uk

Not true.

Personally i would check their CE mark certification. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CE_marking#Rules_underlying_CE_marking
Ask them to provide proof of their CE documentation, which refers to safety and build quality.

To be honest, it wouldnt matter what it LOOKED like. Hand soldering - doesnt really matter to be honest - as long as it functioned safely.

If it was sold in the UK then i guess your claim would be with the seller - If it was unsafe and sold int he uk - thats the Trading standards involvement :)

I guess you must have a marine setuo if your on the Reef, I used to breed seahorses for many years, I found TMC stuff was never any good, always had problems with skimmers and aquaray lighting losing one LED or more, had those replaced many times.
My setup now is all acrylic, great hobby if you have the time.

The hand soldering looks crappy, but unfortunately that doesn't necessarily equate to the device being unsafe

i agree totally, there is no TMC in my system and I'm on about my 6th over the last couple of decades.
