Hi, just wondering if there’s a general consensus on leds.

What I mean is it better to have normal leds and an ocd or afterglow board .
Or can you get the same outcome by just fitting non ghosting leds everywhere?

Really interested to hear if I’m missing something or each are used for different outcomes.
I’m going to start looking at leds for my STTNG this year so will be invaluable info for me.

‘Normal’ frosted lens LEDs with LED OCD, or just leave it incandescent. Stuff inbetween is a compromise in my opinion, but it really depends on your own priorities and sensitivity to insert lighting. Many can’t see it, don't care, and/or don’t want the expense. Each to their own - it’s your game, do what you want!

I’ve got decent non ghosting LEDs in my STTNG and it has very minor ghosting on 3-4 inserts. The driver board is standard.

BSD with an aftermarket driver board ghosts everywhere with comet non ghosting LEDs. It wasn’t too bad with the standard board. I installed an OCD and it works great.

Same as above post - normal with an OCD and you can’t go wrong. Small compromise but non ghosting with OCD is also fine for me.

Yeah that’s the info I was after. I just figured to my non trained mind that non ghosting leds would provide the same results as ocd with standard leds.

So ocd for inserts and GI?

OCD just for inserts. I’ve never bothered with GI.

The OCD board allows the LEDs to fade in and out like incandescents. The non ghosting LEDs fade in and out less well than normal LEDs when using OCD. It’s never bothered me as the end result is still 10x better than LEDs that ghost.

That’s the extent of my knowledge and experience with OCD!

Get the normal LEDs, you'll save a bit of money. Then see if you get ghosting, it's not as common as you think.

I'd recommend an afterglow Nano or Ledocd. I've got one in all my pins except the sys11s and I couldn't live without.
Waiting for @stumblor to do another run of Afterglow Nanos for the two sys11.
